An thought provoking talk:
Michael Crichton examines the gross exaggeration of the effects of Chernobyl and questions apocalyptic hysteria. He then looks at the specific example of the mismanagement of Yellowstone and discusses problems we have in implementing effective interventions in complex systems. In his final words, in answer to the last question put to him from the floor, he says we should deal with real problems that are happening now: poverty and social inequity across the world.

Amen!

That's almost eerie - a voice from the dead. You know he passed on months ago, right?

Hi V,
I knew he had died recently but I didn't know exactly when it was.

Hi V,

He was a greatly talented man, and prolific. And died (of whatever) quite surprisingly young. It was in the papers sometime in 2007.
He began his books at what must have been a young age. I remember seeing the film of his "Westworld" on a Channel ferry way back in 1974, during a bad storm!

He died on Nov 4th 2008, aged 66, of throat cancer.
Did you know he was incredibly tall? 6'9" !
