The closer we get to total destruction, the more nature will cause a change in basic consciousness to come about.

Emergency on Planet Earth!!!!

What is man without the beasts? If the beasts were gone, men would die from a great loneliness of spirit. For whatever happens to the beasts, soon happens to man. All things are connected.
This we know. The earth does not belong to man; man belongs to the earth.
This we know. All things are connected like the blood which unites one family. All things are connected.
Whatever befalls the earth befalls the sons of the earth. Man did not weave the web of life, he is merely a strand in it. Whatever he does to the web, he does to himself. - Chief Seattle (Speaking in 1854)

Jacques Chirac? The former french president which was responsible for a lot of nuclear testing in the South Pacific which contaminated the place quite a bit:eek:.... think we all can change towards the better:)

Re

Re quote 4: A very powerful quote and yes, it is that Mr. Chirac. These world leaders have highly educated speech writers to write their speeches for them, so I doubt they are his words, though he did say them. Has the leopard changed it's spots? Let us hope so. The world needs such a sea change in consciousness, especially from the decision makers, the men of political power. If even people like him are changing their tune, then there is hope...though on the other hand it is a sign of how bad things are looking...

Erm, not sure if he really changed his tune though... it really irritates me how often what politicians and leaders say about the need for action and change, is so often just lip-service, while they still support the large industries and consumer culture that keep up the destruction of the planet. I really do hope things will change for the better and we can adopt a more harmonious way of living, but I'm afraid I really have my doubts that the change will be drastic enough and soon enough to make a lasting difference.

I take your point George and I agree, so many of these 'green initiatives' are just a scam for raising tax revenue. And whilst no-one can know another's heart, you do wonder wheter these politicians are just mouthing green talk simply to gather votes, especially from young people.
What other people do is for them, their responsibility. The issue is that 'you' do your bit for the world/ that in this crisis the world faces - whatever comes to pass - 'you' will be blameless.
At last the issue is at the forefront of public consciousness, we can only hope that there is the collective will to redeem the situation and change the course we're on. Got to stay positive.
