Hi,
Is there a particular tag or code which can be used if the editor mode is switched when writing a post which allows video embedding? If not, how about somehow enabling video embedding directly within posts - wouldn't it make the contents of the post flow more seamless, and be visually more appealing than a plain link?
What do you say........?
Well, I'll highlight this to admin and see what they say, though based on some of the spam we've had in the past where images have been posted, the last thing the mods want to be seeing is moving versions of those things.... :002: (and yes we do have to moderate that sort of stuff too).
Also not sure if there's some legality stuff that would need considering, regarding copyright etc. if people start embedding videos on HP, and HP is then considered a distributor of such material.
What sort of videos are you thinking of, as we don't get that many links posted from what I've seen (just the occasional one linking to youtube)

Hi Giles,
All I was thinking about was embedding a Youtube video (a protein bar recipe, actually), and thought... y'know seeing the video embedded within the post would somehow flow better, and from HP's point of view would keep people onsite - I know, for me, if someone posts a video link, it can be easy to go off on a Youtube tangent...
Don't Youtube (and the lesser know video sites), keep an eye on copyright breaches and all that?

I don't know to be honest, the legal stuff is for Mike to determine... I just know that things like that have to be considered. You're probably right, if it's youtube, though it's possible someone could embed a link to someone's video that is on their site and isn't intended for people to copy or re-embed it elsewhere. Just thinking aloud... (and yes, thinking isn't a good thing to do hehe!)

Yeah, I reckon it would be quite good, I was trying to work out how to do it yesterday, but didn't have any luck... with Youtube having the embedding code directly under their videos... I thought it would be straight forwards enough... but couldn't work it out.
I'm sure you Mod lot will know more about the technical know-how. Although there isn't an 'embed video button' on the post editor - I wouldn't be surprised if one isn't added by the 'forum people' soon-ish.
I think there might be some sort of extra code to embed a Youtube video into a blog post (for example) - is the impression I had yesterday whilst trying to work out how to do - so maybe there is something similar, a little bit of code or something that could be used if the editor mode is switched...?
Hope I'm not over stepping a mark here - but, out of curiosity I took a look at the vBulletin website, and noticed that in the vBulletin 4.0 Forum , there is a new video embedding feature: (YouTube, Vimeo, Hulu, Dailymotion, Google, Metacafe).
Careful, you'll have Mike doing a forum upgrade, and then all the colours will change again and everyone will be going mad! hehe! 😀

Hello WildStrawberry
Managed to have a quick word with Mike with regard to your interesting suggestion and yes I believe it is possible, but not without some work on the backend.of what we have.
Not sure how long it would take, but no doubt Mike will let you know once this is available.
Thank you for putting the idea forward.
All the best
Sue
