Oh my goodness. I can barely contain my excitement. This year's Strictly.... line up has been announced. It looks like they have upped the ante a bit this year

Am I alone in my excitement?

How fabulous! Do they need anything else doing?

Sorry - can't be spiritual all the time. Have to give in to my base instincts now and then......

Strictly was spoilt for me when Alesha Dixon joined the judges - sure she won her competition but she lacks credibility to judge...and that plus her dreadful laugh and her general attitude...euuuu...

Doubt I will be watching this series for that reason.

Oh but Uncle Len is still there...... I do agree though. They shouldn't have ditched old Arlene.

After finishing work I had to watch my recording of Strictly! Wow, I even managed to guess several of the pairings correctly. Should be an amazing series. Loved the dress Tess wore. James is my hero but I think some of the new male dancers will give him a bit of competition in the 'guns' stake! 🙂

But obviously the dancing counts!

I've never watched it before (cos I don't have a TV) - however I admit to having got quite excited by all the online hype for this year's contest. I've been trying to watch the shows on iPlayer. Unfortunately the quality of the recording is really really rubbish. It's very pixelated, you can barely make out the faces, and the sound is poor. How strange... I'd not expected that. I've only watched the first 10 mins of the first show... perhaps the quality improves later in the recording?

Anyway, I am quite interested in how Ann Widdecombe, Pamela Stephenson and Felicity Kendal fare.

Pammy was fab wasn't she? I will be rooting for her I think. I hope Anton and Annie stay for a while - they are just wonderful. What's with all the funny costumes - tartan bits and pieces and wellies? Not sure I like that. I love the gorgeous OTT dresses - just an old fashioned girl I'm afraid.

Weren't there some fabulous unexpected performances amongt them all?! Lovely Matt has my vote at the moment and Pam looked amazing. I do wonder though if Billy Connolly is a jealous man as he came and watched the rehearsal/mentioned he was concerned about a younger man being up so close to his wife etc? I did laugh when Goldie said that he knew how strongly Joe felt about Kristina (?) his partner last season. That's why he hastily introduced him to his wife so there would be no jealousy lol!

I'm looking forward to the actual competition starting now (although I literally cringed at Paul Daniel's performance:eek:)

This is all completely new territory to me, as I've never watched it before, ever. One thing spoiled it for me - I really didn't like the old guy who introduced each act (and his bad jokes). I thought Graham Norton compared the show? I found myself turning the sound off when he came on.

I really liked Kara, I thought she was actually very talented. Plus the farmer guy (Matt?) - who was on the first night. Again, very good. And yes, Pamela was wonderful - especially lovely was her seemingly genuine delight at receiving good comments.

Ann was hilarious with that 'kick' she did - which the judges picked up looked like a 1940's goose step. Awful! But it was such a cruel combination of her and Anton... very short + very tall. But Anton seemed to accept that that was his pay-back for last year, and took it with grace.

I'm looking forward to next week's show (but not to that old guy - please come back Graham ).

Hi Ava unfortunately Bruce Forsythe is the ONLY compere of this programme and has been since the beginning! He is in his 80's now and I really wish they would pension him off, especially from this show! It's excrutiating watching and listening to him I have to agree. I would like to see someone else compare (but not Graham Norton I'm afraid:))

Oh, I see. I'm surprised to hear that as it doesn't seem to me to be a programme aimed at the older generation. But aside from him, as a first time viewer I loved the show. I'm looking forward to next week's dances.

I'm going to buck the trend and hold my hand up to being a bit of a Brucie fan. I know he is old as the hills and I know he is cheesy and his jokes are terrible, but Strictly without Brucie......? Come on!

Graham Norton??? Noooooooo.

The only other possibility that I think might work is to stand Anton down as a professional dancer and make him the host instead.

None of my friends wish to talk about Strictly, so I'm afraid that you guys have to get my little outbursts of enthusiasm.

I was so disappointed that Goldie was voted off. The odious Paul Daniels should have gone (I think he's a bad dancer and does not seem like a nice person). I still love Pamela Anderson... and she is my favourite. Though one of my colleagues seems to think she has had 'work' done to her face, as has Felicity. If that's true it's a bit disappointing.

Ann really was terrible, wasn't she? But it truly is car-crash TV. When Anton swung her around it was hilarious - she really was like a sack of potatoes. The fabulous thing is that she knows how bad she is, but is just going with it as a bit of fun til the public tire of her and throw her out. With the exception of Paul Daniels I thought all the men were very good this week. I was surprised that Goldie and Peter Shilton were the bottom two.

Ooh, only 6 more days until the next show. I'm really enjoying it.

Hi Ava - really happy to participate in any Strictly chat!

I agree with everything you say actually. Really hoping Paul was going to go this week - horrid little man (IMHO). Ann is truly terrible, but compelling viewing so I hope the public keep her in for a few weeks. Pam is my favourite and Scott (chappie from Eastenders). Roll on Saturday!

Just to confirm how much I am getting into Strictly I went onto its site and read a few of the professionals' profiles. I love Anton, he seems so tolerant, and that fake (but endearing) smile seems never to leave his face - so I wanted to find out a bit more about him. I was delighted to discover that his professional partner was Erin, the NZ lass partnered with Peter Shilton, who seems equally lovely.

Yes, roll on Saturday!

I just had a look at the Strictly blog, and have noticed that folk posting in the comments [] are complaining that they miss the dance off. Clearly cos this is my first year watching Strictly I don't know what the dance off is? Could someone explain what it is, and what the previous shows' format was like?

Oh, and yes, to me it did look like it was pre-recorded the night before - which doesn't give a lot of time to collect votes does it?

The dance off. Done in the second show (why they still try and pass this off as done on Sunday is beyond me!). At the end, two couples with the least public votes would dance again - the judges then had to choose the 'best' dancer and the loser would go home. It didn't always go the way the judges wanted, but that is the 'public' for you.

Yes, Anne is going to go on for weeks - with all her MP friends putting repeat vote calls through as expenses.........

I love Scott: think Pam may come unstuck with some of the more technical stuff; Paul Daniels - oh pullleeease!; love Matt (and his enthusiasm): love Kara; not sure about Patsy; adore Felicity, but not sure she will cope with technical stuff either; Goldie? nah; Jimmi - def. the one to watch; the american girl? nah; Gavin? why?; Tina - looks like a frightened rabbit, poor girl; Peter wouldn't have got past week 2.

Bring it on!!!!

Spot on Jabba - except for Felicity. I'm afraid I have a completely irrational dislike for her and find her intensley irritating. Always have. I know I'm in the minority and I have no idea why I don't like her - she seems perfectly nice, but there you are..... I hope Pammie holds up. I like her.

Jabba... fabulous... thanks for that explanation. Do you know what, I think I'd prefer to see a dance-off. Currently they are just standing around with nothing to do, and then they go home after the final vote is read out. A dance-off would offer an extra bit of tension and excitement, and one final chance to prove themselves. It's the model that they have on X Factor (hmm... not sure that that should be held up as a model for anything, but hey, it's similar-ish).

But, if the show is indeed recorded the night before how many hours does the public have to cast their votes? Surely voting can't start until the Saturday show ends... and then if they hang around for a few hours to do the Sunday show, then the vote collection will only be for those few hours. Or, when you call the vote phonelines are you told (at say, midnight) that the lines are now closed?
