Not that I've actually read it myself, but "The Secret" is about the so-called 'Law of Attraction". I hired the DVD and started to watch it, but fell asleep - i.e. I found it less than compelling. If you look on and search for it, you can read the reviews and even "look inside", which means you can read an extract.

"The Secret" is a re-packaged common wisdom - "what you focus on is what you get". I personally feel that has been rather over-hyped and is making its creators unjustifiably huge amounts of money (I use the word "unjustifiably" because the idea is certainly not new or original - and definitely not unique or "secret" - you can find plentiful information in similar vein on the internet - or may be I am just being jealous! ;)). There are some useful elements in it, but the basic idea is that focusing your attention on what you want is preferable to thinking of what you don't want!

There must already be four threads on HP about this now, if you do a search on these forums. Long threads with differing opinions. Mine being quite negative TBH as it's a materialistic method lacking Divinity. And it's no "secret" - it's all been known for thousands of years.

I just got it this Christmas, and read it, and then watched the DVD. I thought the idea was a great one, and have been doing my visualisations. Apart from the cheesy bits, if you take those away - the bits where it seems that negativity is such a bad and awful thing and you should only be positive, positive positive.... (I feel that the overall message is a good one). I think if you take negative aspects and turn them into positives, you shouldn't be "scared" of negativity....
Anyway, the day after i read it, i imagined a £50,000 cheque in the post, and lo and behold, the next morning, i received a cheque from good old Ernie (premium bonds) for £50!!! (Well - it's a start!!!!) LOL

I also do the visualisations with parking spaces, and i ALWAYS get them where i have visualised them.... so it's not really a "secret", but it works for me!!!!

I agree with Venetian that it is very focussed on materialism, but then after i thought about it some more, the manifestations only happen when you have goodness to offer, so the really rich people like Jack Canfield (chicken soup for the soul) etc. have also contributed to getting the message out there, and if they need to live in a $4million dollar mansion to do it, then who are we to judge!!??

Love and Light xx

You could try the library .... I've had it and passed it on......

nothing "new" in it TBH, as others have already said.

the fundamentals of the book are good, getting us to focus on the positive instead of the negative. It is basically 'the law of attraction'. Not sure about the 'science' behind it, but it does seem to work.

Yes people are making huge sums of money, but then, so do a lot of people out of 'new age' ideas.

It may have been common wisdom but all jumbled up in our heads......i think the secret helps piece all the parts together and come up with one concept.....giving the rest of us a better picture of the jumbled up pieces of the puzzle

I have a copy of this book, but I have never given a chance to read it (so many paper works to be done ), but some of my colleagues describe it as governed by a natural law called law of attraction, or something like that. I’m not that fan, but I’ll give it a read some other time. 🙂
