Those little pearls that make us stop and think... reevaluate...understand.

I'll start. This one from the movie, Heaven & Earth. As spoken by venerable Buddhist Priest on the subject of the spiritual path and karma.

'If we only travelled on sunny days, we would never reach our destination'.

Only after the last tree has been cut down
Only after the last river has been poisened
Only after the last fish has been caught
Only then will you understand that money cannot be eaten.

Is that the actual quote? I knew it was something like that...:) Sigh, makes me go all tingly.

Hmm I didn't notice it was wrong. I know quite a few people who only seem to want to travel on rainy days and they never get anywhere!

What a great thread.

This is my simple religion. There is no need for temples; no need for complicated philosophy. Our own brain, our own heart is our temple; the philosophy is kindness.

Our Greatest Fear

Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate.

Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure.

It is our light not our darkness that most frightens us.

We ask ourselves, who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous,
talented and fabulous?

Actually, who are you not to be?

You are a child of God.

Your playing small does not serve the world.

There's nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other
people won't feel insecure around you.

We were born to make manifest the glory of
God that is within us.

It's not just in some of us; it's in everyone.

And as we let our own light shine,
we unconsciously give other people
permission to do the same.

As we are liberated from our own fear,
Our presence automatically liberates others.

—Marianne Williamson

Sorry, it's a long one.

Hi sunanda,

I've removed an extra line of text, a repeat of what's now line 3 in your post above, which had appeared as the first line:

it is our light not our darkness that most frightens us

and also tweaked similarly in the quote in reply.

May I add this:

said to have been in Nelson Mandela’s Speech to Congress

(Original source believed to be “A Course in Miracles” on which Marianne Williamson's book "A Return to Love" is based)

which is on the foot of the copy on my PC.

My contribution to the thread, the Serenity Prayer, full version:

THE SERENITY PRAYER

God, grant me the serenity
To accept the things I cannot change,

The courage to change the things I can,

And the wisdom to know the difference.

Grant me patience with the changes
that take time,
Appreciation of all that I have,
Tolerance of those with different struggles
And the strength to get up and try again
One day at a time.

"The thought manifests as the word;
The word manifests as the deed;
The deed develops into habit;
And habit hardens into character.
So watch the thought and its ways with care,
And let it spring from love
Born out of concern for all beings".

- Siddartha, the Buddha

Nearly all people are traveling, but most don't know where they're going.
