I am finding that I am being drawn more and more towards tree medicine and the spirituality of trees, I have loved trees for most of my life and I brought a book off amazon (was an offer with my celtic tree oracle cards) and I just can't put the book down and have now decided that my wedding bouqet will have some Birch twigs in it as I have have an infinity with it.

I have one in my garden and also a blackthorn which I am in awe of now after reading what it is good for!

I am being drawn to develop a more tree based spiritual system which is really exciting.

Sorry just had to share

Hi Wendy!
please dont ever be sorry for anything you wish to share, one good thought may triger someone's new spiritual journey!
you will learn so much from the super inteligence of the plant kingdom, I promise you wont regret sharing this thought.
something I learnt; The seed of an apple contains all the nessesary information needed to grow roots downwards to search for water, then grows up to seek sunlight, grow a bark to protect itself, leaves to photo synthesize, and even more seeds to reproduce itself!
Of course this is just a quick version as it does a more complex task to become a tree, but I would like to hear of any technological advances that can achieve such a feat.

May mother nature open your eyes to its full beauty so you may share with your sistrens and brethrens!

RE: Tree Medicine

I agree! Trees really do have their individual characters don't they?!! I have a particularly nice Yew tree near my house that 'speaks' to me:D:D

What attracts me to trees so much is their strength, their deep connection with the earth, and their infinite stillness. Ahhhh lovely!

RE: Tree Medicine

here is a website detailing some of the meanings of trees

I was going to post the link of a really wonderful book I remember reading once which had much more detailed info than the site, but I've forgotten the name[&:]

Perhaps it's the one Maria mentions?

RE: Tree Medicine

Hi everyone

Reading this thread has fascinated me and so many excellent links too. Recently, I have been feeling that I needed to do more work with trees again and this weekend I used the Holly tree in my back garden as part of my rituals.

The story started earlier in the year when I lost my cat, Billy (a gorgeous, fluffy, ginger and white Tom cat). I felt very strongly that I wanted him to be cremated and that I was going to scatter his ashes around the Holly tree in the garden. I did that on the Mid-Winter Solstice. Anyway, time went by and slowly I started to develop the tree as a kind of outdoor shrine. It has become a lovely peaceful spot. Indeed lots of cats from all around the neighbourhood, have started curling up in it and sharing it as a 'snooze spot'. Last weekend, I brought it into my Beltane ritual and hung flower chains from it to honour the God and the Goddess. I was reading the information from the websites, lo and behold I learn it is meant to represent the winter half of the year (the oak represents summer), therefore, I believe it was no coincidence that I should start my relationship with this tree on the mid-winter solstice. I understand Holly is meant to be very protective, I am thinking of the cats feeling so relaxed and being able to sleep there.

The other tree that I have been very strongly attracted to lately was 2/3 months or so back around Imbolc. I was going through a really stressful period at the time and on the way into work I used to walk past a Rowan Tree by a churchyard. I used to collect the berries which I believe were very protective/magical for me and I kept on my person at all times. I also managed to collect some wood that had fallen from it and made myself a wand. According to sources, this tree symbolises protection and the cycle of death and rebirth too. The qualities of both these trees reflect what has been occuring in my life lately. When I lived in Glastonbury I had a very strong relationship with a Yew tree close to the remains of the Abbey. I don't believe that I have built a strong affinity/relationship with these trees at different parts of my life by accident. Help is always available for us from nature when it is needed. I trusted my instinct with these trees, I thank them for the help they have given me along my way.

One last thing to share, a few years ago now when I was starting out with 'spiritual things' I gazed into my crystal ball to be given symbols, I had no idea what they were. I had recently found a new companion and when he saw what I had drawn, he said they looked like Ogham symbols. At that time, I didn't even have a clue what the Ogham alphabet was. I researched it and felt very happy with it. I made my own set of stones with the symbols and I now use those stones for divination purposes.

I think I have very strong Celtic links. My family originated from Cornwall. I was reading another thread about useful shaman's references. I cannot back the recommendation to read John and Caitlinn Mathews enough. I have found a real affinity with what Caitlinn teaches. I have just read 'Singing the Soul Back Home'. It is a very practical guide with some excellent excercises 'to do'. I loved it. Also I think Paganism, Shamanism and Witchcraft sit really well together. That is another part of a thread that I am remembering.

All the best everyone
