The medicine man is widely revered by Native American tribes, with often little distinction from the shaman, priest or sorcerer. He is responsible for the health of the tribe & is a fountain of knowledge about herbs and their uses.
Medicine men who see into the spirit world can perceive plants & match a person's aura to the colour of the plant. A key figure in all tribes, the medicine man often goes on vision quests into the spirit world for answers to his patients' emotional & physical problems. The quest is accompanied by much ceremony, & often the medicine man smokes a pipe of sacred herbs & may wear an animal costume.

RE: The Medicine man
Hi wise owl, chokecherry used by Crow indains to make bark tea.
this is how it made Remove the top reddish brown bark from chokecherry first of all. Next gather the green spongy layer underneath. Drop a handful of this into a quart of boiling water and continue boiling untill the tea becomes a bright cherry red. This is said what Crow indains used for coughs, colds, chills, fevers, bloody diarrhea, phlegm in the lungs, hoarseness, sore throat, canker, sores in the mouth, stomach cramps, internal bleeding, and as an external skin wash for measles, mumps, chicken pox, rash, eczema, and scalp dandruff.
Chaparral tea an old indain remedy contains cassia, marshmallow, bearberry, ginseng,, feverfew, moondaisy papaya, citrus peel, and exotic spices, get rid of unwanted pounds, but it also gently cleanses the system.
Hmm any idears i want to make the teas. i no there some i can get but not all.

I love herbal tea and green tea, since Reiki iv'e gone right off regular tea with milk and coffee [:-]
RE: The Medicine man
I must admit that being a medicine woman or healer does interest me 😀 rather than a Shaman, so is there a great difference then between the two[sm=scratchchin.gif] may do a course on herbalism at some point, 😉
RE: The Medicine man
Hi Hawkwind
to answer you question ideally no, but nowadays I would say yes you can seperatethe two. It is easier as we can specialise in certain areas.

RE: The Medicine man
Thanks Maria, i think that Shamanism is calling to me but as yet i don't feel ready to accept it, so maybe the healing / medicine is a good way of stepping forward one day at a time so to speak.
RE: The Medicine man
