Could anyone please give me any information regarding the significance of seeing crows. My sister seems to have an affinity to them and just recently I have seen 3 together - on the ground, that is. I'm thinking it is there to tell me something?

Many thanks

Hi Moonfairy,

I was only thinking this myself the other day. I had one on my wall for ages just looking at me. I found this site and hope that you find it interesting. Perhaps others with more knowledge on this thread will have some insights too.

Love & blessings,

Rachel

I have been reading a book called Crow country by Mark Cocker and it turns out that it's really about rooks! Apparently if you see more than one crow, they are probably rooks as crows are solitary birds while rooks like to be together (hence the rookeries in trees where they all build their nests together.) Crows or rooks, I believe that these birds (corvids) are pretty special. One of the aspects of Kali, (see my avatar - that's me that is!!) has the crow as her emblem. Once, on my first visit to India, when I was experiencing, shall we say, an altered state I swear that a crow spoke to me. Twelve years later I still think it did. Ravens, the largest members of the family, have significance in pagan terms too - they haunted the battlefields of the ancient Britons, like my heroine Boudica for example.

Many thanks for this link Rachel. It was really interesting to read about the crow there. I'm sure the fact that there were three of them was very relevant - maybe meaning the past, present and future? Mmmnnnn ........

That's very interesting Sunanda. I shall have to do some research on this now. I do love ravens as well - lovely big majestic birds.

Many thanks

Boo - I'm getting 'no such url' when I click that link. Why are the crows hiding from me, I wonder!

Edit to say that I think I've tracked it down. These are the keywords, right?

Hi Guys (as Sunanda knows I have a little love affair with Nordic/Pagan mythology) and Sunanda mentioned earlier the Pagan views on Crows/Ravens are worth looking at so i couldn't help myself from posting .
😮
It's interesting that there are three that you mention Lesley - Odin had two (I can't rememebr their names) but one was 'thought' and the other 'memory' - whom he'd send out every day (sunrise I think) to bring him back all the news and info... but there is also the belief that the Raven helps to take you to the world of the dead... could be the thrid given your recent loss with the other two representing taking stock, cherishing your memories and looking to the future... maybe?
Just my twopennerth hun 😉

Aw Roger - why would you want to stop yourself from posting? Your comments are always worth reading. Unshackle yourself, sir, and post away.

That sounds good to me Rog. Very apt for me at this time. Lots of changes ahead for me I suppose and I now feel ready for the next chapter.;)
And I agree with Sunanda, post away. I always look forward to you sharing your knowledge - and sense of humour.:):)

The Crow
Crows are very vocal birds. They are sly and often deceptive in their actions. Crows have been known to build false nests high in treetops to confuse predators. The height of their nests give them the opportunity to watch everything that is going on around them. Many cultures think of crow as the keeper of knowledge for nothing escapes their keen sight.
Crows travel in groups and make mischief in teams. As one crow explores something new, others will watch closely to see what happens and then learn from it. In this way they seem to always be in council with each other. They often raise a ruckus when hunters are around, warning deer and other birds. Crows recognize possible danger and always post lookouts when feeding---thier most vulnerable time.
Their language is complex and they have a remarkable voice range. Each caw has its own meaning. Sometimes crow warns of impending danger. Other times it signals a time to join in council and make decisions. Listening to crow can teach those with this medicine how to hear the truth of what is being said.
The striking black color of crow represents the color of creation. It is the womb out of which the new is born. Black the color of night gives birth to the light of a new day. Crow is a daytime bird reminding us that magic and creation are present in both. Their ability to shift between the known and unknown world indicates new journeys.
Because crow is adaptable to all environments and will eat almost anything they can survive in almost any situation. Crow is associated with magic, unseen forces and spiritual strength. If crow flies into your life, get out of your familiar nest, look beyond your present range of vision, listen to its caw and act accordingly

I also think Crows represent law and order, justice, and they are relevant to me when it's time I did a bit of shadow working, they are very dark..birds??? what lies beneath, what do i need to address? to own that which I would rather not...subconscious factors ready for the light of day. Jamie Sams medicine cards say that all sacred text, The Ogallah, the Book of Law are bound with crow feathers, back to legal documentation again.

I moved to ireland,County Meath 6 years ago from Hampshire and when i first moved the thing i noticed was the vast amount of crows around.....I am used to seeing so many now so dont notice the numbers....

Now it could be said that because County Meath is a very lucrative farming county of Ireland we have the crows but it is also the Heritage capital of Ireland & has strong pagan roots all over the county....along with Newgrange,Knowth & Dowth and of course Hill of Tara....

I feel the Crows are signs of spirituality and magic...I feed the crows daily, the are very clever birds who do not miss a trick, the dont frighten me but some people have said that they are a sign of dead souls???? my knowledge is very limited but I thought I would share this anyway...
