Hi Mouse .

Text/s contained within the linked article ..

I noticed a wicked-looking, black furry creature high above her, descending fast in her direction. I couldn't believe my mind's eye as I watched it attempt to clutch her in its sharp, long-nailed claws, huge monkey eyes popping out while it screamed through a crooked, eagle-like beak.

I have noticed / come across a lot of mediums, channels, spiritualists, psychics in my time and to this day there are many that quite defensively deny that there is anything that is of the astral / spirit realms that can or will effect us in a negative way .

There are creatures for use of a better word that exists that fit all sorts of 'monster type' descriptions .

It would be fair enough to say that those that have an opinion that none of these energies exist or that there is no-thing 'out there' that can cause us disharmony have not experienced as such .

Which leads on to the topic regarding 'does one need protection' Many say there is a need many say there isn't .

At times in my astral travels I have needed protection and at times I haven't, it's as simple as that (lol) .

I can't get to the article from work as the site is blocked, however...

Sounds very much like some 'creative writing' to me. 🙂

I haven’t encountered this particular spirit, but I have encountered others that are similar. Yes, such things exist. Although I wouldn’t use the term ‘evil spirit’. Disturbed. Hurt and wanting to spread that hurt around. Having a totally different agenda to us. I would completely disagree with the part of the article that states:
The ongoing battle between good and evil in the unseen worlds constantly shapes our experience of reality. We are all affected by it.”
The shaman walks between. It’s very fashionable to consider oneself a “Warrior for good”. I would challenge anyone who thinks they are a shaman to consider what ‘walking between’ means.Try considering yourself a negotiator. Then talk to your spirit teacher about it.

What concerns me about the article is that the person writing is seeing clients, many of whom will have intrusions that don’t seem pleasant (whether so-called ‘evil’ or not) doesn’t seem prepared for this. After six years of training? I really hope (and trust) that my students are so prepared after less time than that.

As for the “world’s leading shamanic practitioners” – what does that mean? There are circles in which I am considered such. Small circles, but probably as large as many other’s circles. At least three of the named “world leaders” are considered frauds by many shamanic practitioners - possibly are, possibly aren’t, but certainly not thought of as competent shamans by many people in the fields.

This is the sort of thing that puts me off getting involved with shamanism, i.e. I'm a scared wuss!! If I encountered something like this I'd be terrified. Or, perhaps, if I was in an more altered state of consciousness I'd be fine? I have had the perception that there is another 'me' who could handle this sort of thing. You don't know until you try I guess (eeeeek!).

The idea of the "warrior for good" does seem to be fashionable yes, as does the idea of "the healer" and I'm not sure you can choose to be a healer, I think you just are.

There’s a lot of difference between being a shaman and practising shamanism. If you go on an Introductory workshop you will be going to safe places to meet safe spirits – your power animal, a spirit teacher – who will probably (it’s up to you) become life-long friends. Encountering the kind of thing we've been talking about comes much later, and then only if you want to go into places where this type of thing hangs out. Which is a good reason for becoming comfortable with journeying through a good Introductory course (like Jonathan’s and – I hope – mine), and then plenty of practice through regular groups (there’s a good one in London) and follow-up courses (Jonathan’s Into the Journey, or my Deepening Our Connection) for at least a year before starting learning shamanic healing.
The exception is where someone comes on an early course with a being like this already attached. A good teacher should be trained and experienced enough to deal with it, and the course participant will be all the better for getting rid of it. Even if something like this happened on a course you were on – and it’s highly unlikely – you, as another participant, would not meet it.

Thanks, that is very good to know, I probably read too much I think!

I did encounter a kind of elemental/sea spirit once (won't go into detail here) but basically although it didn't feel 'evil' I was quite unnerved because it was so obviously there as something external and felt so alien to me.

What a good experience. However, plenty going on here. No need to go to Peru! 🙂

Because then you are learning something that is designed to work in Peru, rather than somethinng that is designed to work here.
