Hello!

I am looking to begin some form of shamanic training or apprenticeship.

Up to now I have not had any meetings with mythic seers who have offered me an initiation into the ways (Carlos Casteneda style), so I thought maybe I would consciously explore whats out there, and have looked at a few schools in England. Some look good, and I will try out some courses, but now I've just joined this forum thing, I decided I'd put it out there and see if any of you good people would have any suggestions for me, on schools, individuals or whatever. Anything at all.

I feel its time to get serious about the whole business of the journey of my spirit.

Thanks!

JJ

NNooooooooooooooooo, not the C word again 😉

(not a personal dig JJ, it's just that any mention of CC gets divided opinion round these parts)

Oh! So whats the deal with Mr. C and how hes received round 'ere, or not, as the case may be?

I personally found his books to be the most amazing literally journey I've ever undertaken! I know not everyone feels that way, but hey, the same is true of anything, even a harmless kiwi fruit.

Have a look through the latter stages of the recent 11:11 thread 😉

okay, I read it!

It seems some people believe Mr. C's books were fiction. I actually took them at face value and believed everything written. I WANT TO BELIEVE!! I'm joking, but seriously, I didn't for a minute doubt its truth. The only question left for me was where do I sign up for this stuff?!?!?

But really, to create fiction like that, he would have to have been a consummate sorcerer anyway!!!

Welcome to fairyland, mr jag. Or is it Mr. Reeves? Or is it just jag? (I'm confused.) I also will never be convinced that CC was a fraud. Last winter I met a woman who'd met him in Real Life and she was totally convinced he was genuine.

I thought I had emerged from my identity crisis!!!

I have had a healthy pages practitioner account for some time (jag.reeves - formal, its business), but thought i needed to create another account for the forum (thus just jag) But im told Im gonna have to merge the 2 accounts as I can only have one!

I was only recently introduced to the idea that CC was a fraud and his stories fiction! That was after I had read most of them! For me it has been like water off a ducks back, as they say. My wonderment is impervious to being tainted by these deniers!!!

Anyway Jag - back to your first Q 😉

I've always thought that 'Shamanism' has a strong cultural element as well as a mystical core, I've always been very wary of people who, in a modern industrialised culture, decalre themselves 'Shamen'

I'm sure at one time northern European countries had their Shamanic traditions and many true practitioners of the art, but I always imagine a 21st century Shaman to be a totally different entity to the Castenada-esque Indian.

What would a 21st century European Shaman use as his/her power plants or spirit guides? Could you have an internet Shaman or a BigMcShaman ?

Not being facetious or trivialising a very important subject but maybe the message is that in searching for our Shamanic guide we find we are our own, who knows but I think it's a very interesting train of thought that the search for guidance may, in itself, be sufficient and the 'Master-Pupil' relationship does not have to be physical and actual to be effective.

I have been very fortunate to cross ways with a incredible skilled Shamanic Healer. Have a look at . He provides 1-to-1 healing, development sessions, workshops and classes.

Hope this helps.

Hi muzone. There is a thriving subculture of people using 'power plants' for spiritual or healing purposes - just google 'entheogen'. I'm not sure if you would class them as shamans though.

Hi All,

Although this is quite an old thread now, I thought it might be helpful to any future "browsers" to put here the most well known shamanic training organisations in the UK (to me?) with links to their websites. They are in no particular order.

The training syllabus of the Foundation for Shamanic Studies is run in the UK by an organisation called The Sacred Trust. The Foundation was created by Michael Harner who was at the forefront of the resergence in interest in shamanism in the 1970's. The Foundation is well known throughout theWest.

Eagles Wing is a UK based training organisation. They also offer a full curriculum in shamanic training in the UK with trips to South America.

The Isle of Avalon Foundation is another UK based organisation well known in shamanic circles run by Howard and Elsa Malpas and who also organise THE major national shamanic conference in the UK each Autrumn.

Isle of Avalon Foundation

The Scandinavian Center for Shamanic Studies runs a full range of training courses in the UK and around Europe. I have personally worked with them extensively so I naturally recommend them highly.

Whenever someone asks me how to go about finding out more about shamanism, I always suggest they look up the weekend training courses on "how to journey" from each of the above organisations so that they will be with others new to it and get a sense of whether it resonates with them.

I hope this is helpful.

Malcolm Moore.

I did take some weekends at The Eagles Wing college. They are pretty good communal events and very enjoyable.

I did also take a course with Ross Heaven, last year. It was okay but nothing life changing.

If anyone is interested I can recommend a couple of shamans, one connected to the Carlos Castaneda tradition, who really will shake you up and change your life. They have with me!

Native shamans practice within their own cultures and meet the spirits of their own lands. Why would it be considered 'fake' to do the same here - to meet and to work with the spirits of these islands? I'm not (necessarily) talking about Norse or Celtic spirits, but the spirits of your own house, or garden, park or town. In my experience, these spirits are as happy to consider those who work with them seriously as shamans, as spiriuts anywhere else are.

There are some good, life-changing, shamanic teachers in the UK and there are some awful ones.
