Hi,

Is there anyone out there who would like to discuss their experiences of shamanic journeying? I was thinking it might be interesting to discuss approaches to journeying, how it may have developed for you, different ways you have tried, how it might have helped you or someone else, any synchronicities that have come up...?

I've just returned to journeying after a longish break from it. I've done an introductory course, and some journeying on my own, so am a beginner but thought it might be interesting to see what others are doing with it...

I hope so too. The more people, the better the chat.

In the meantime, what sort of topics are you journeying about at the moment? I journey about my garden a lot and about my partner's health.

Well, I have been learning to drive for about a year and I asked for help with overcoming the intense anxiety and difficulties I have with it (I was in 2 fairly serious car accidents years ago so this might be why it has been so difficult for me).

When I first asked for advice on this I was told to "cut the ties that bind you" so my next journey was "how do I start to do that".

At the moment I am in a phase where I am trying to overcome various things that I haven't been able to face but I would also very much like to help my partner with his health as it has made life difficult for him. I guess in one way i feel that the more sorted I am the more I will be able to help others.

Has the advice given helped with the anxiety? You say you 'asked for help' and that you 'asked for advice'. In common usage we tend to use these as interchangeable but remember that they are actually quite different. Asking for help (I quote Jonathan here: "The shaman works by asking for help.") is asking the spirits to work on you directly. Asking for advice is asking for information that you can work on yourself. There are advantages and disadvantages to both approaches.

Being in serious car accidents will probably have lost you soul. "Cutting the ties" could possibly be the first step in getting ready to have this soul returned. Did you get some good, practical advice about how to start this?

"Cutting" ties can be sudden and traumatic. Who was it who told you to do this? Maybe check if there isn't a gentler way? ("untying" rather than "cutting" maybe?)

I've only done 3 journeys since returning to it and the information has to be 'unpacked' by learning the language. There is so much in my journeys (!) it is all written down but a great deal there!

I asked questions as in 'how do I....' - I didn't word as asking for 'help' or 'advice' particularly although the questions were specific as I was taught.

I don't think cutting the ties was traumatic, maybe it would be if referring to a person. I think it refers to my own ways of thinking because when I went back to ask how to start this I was told to 'transform your experiences'. Has it helped? If I remember to re-frame things sometimes it does!
