namaste!

I'm very recently dealing with the loss of a very special person in my life-through a mutual breakup and I've been quite upset this past week. All of a sudden this afternoon a desire came over me to do my guided chakra meditation with Jan Tober that a friend gave me last month.

After the spoken meditation, there was a period of time that was focused on the Tibetan bowls and chimes. During this time, I visualized many things. All of a sudden, I saw a blank panther come around a corner toward me...my body as I was lying in my meditative state. I became really excited because I realized this might be a totem animal for me and then the panther disappeared. I feel like I scared it away with my excitement.

5 hours later, I decided to meditate to relax my mind and then journey. Unfortunately, I was using a drumming tape with vocals and it was too distracting for me, so the journey was very short. Anyhow, I asked that I meet my power animal.

I was dressed in a light pink crinkly skirt with my blue sarong as my top. I also had a flower in my hair which was pretty short at one length and I was dancing around a campfire, near a dirt area with unknown faces. I was very happy and had a smile on my face-the old smile I used to carry with me all the time when I regarded myself as a highly positive person. As I danced, I proceeded to go into the lower level by traveling down a stairwell. It seemed like a tunnel area with torched flames as lights on the wall. I traveled down the spiral stairs and passed a wolf. When I reached the bottom I saw the blank panther. Then, I became sad and I sat down. She asked what was wrong and told her I was very upset. She laid down next to my feet looking forward and allowed me to pet her. She was a strong feminine spirit and very quiet. The name Shambala surfaced, but I'm not sure if it was my name or hers. So, I asked her if that was her name and she would not answer.

When I was finished with my journey and finished writing in my journal, I did a quick search online for Shambala because I had never heard the term before..

This is what came up:
[DLMURL] http://www.shambala.org/shambala.htm [/DLMURL]

How incredibly amazing. Shambala is a preserve that provides a haven for big exotic cats on the edge of Mojave Desert, northeast of LA.

Still confused if it is her name, a name for me, or none of the above.

Any thoughts on this experience? I'm relatively new to journeying.

Hi Lightseeker

What a fabulous journey, though it gave me a bit of a start at first as Shambala is very close to the name my guide uses(though not quite;))

It seems as though your panther just wants you to know she's there for you at this sad time - I don't know whether Shambala refers to her either - only time and further journeys will tell - she probably didn't elaborate as she wanted you to find out a little about the name first, and thats just what you've done:D

RE: journey for my power animal

Thank you for your reply Mabinogion 🙂

I did look up more information on the term Shambala and found that it is a Sanskit word which means "the source of happiness" to Tibetans. There is said to be a lengendary land of spiritual enlightenment known as Shambala in Tibet where the most sacred/secret spiritual teachings of the world are.

My panther is very comforting as you mentioned and I have not been quite upset (crying nonstop) since I met her which feels very good.

This was my meditation into a short journey this morning...

I went to the lower world my usual way, just walking down the spiral stairs. This time I had a small brown rabbit accompany me. At times I picked it up. When I got to the end, the panther was there. We talked for a little bit, she told me she likes to run. I told her I have been exercising and trying to become more spiritual. She told me to keep it up, that I'm doing fine. I remember asking if she had any children and she didn't answer. I told her I didn't either. Then she started to walk around and I followed her. I wanted to see if her name was Shambala, so I called it out as I was behind her, but she would not answer. Her walk was so authoritative and I remember watching her shoulders. We passed a room with a throne and jewels. I sat in the throne for a minute or two and the panther tried to jump on my lap. It seemed very uncharacteristic of her, just like me sitting in that throne. I didn't really know why it was there. Then she calmed down and sat next to me. It wasn't long before we left. She wanted to take a bath, so I followed her outside to the waterfalls. We didn't get to bathe, because I felt myself being called back. The pace started to move quickly, I had to leave. I believe she called me or shouted out Shambala as I was running away to go back to the middle world because I turned around. She told me to be safe and be well today. I was moved by her thoughtfulness and she looked on at me as I left.

I just ordered a drumming cd from Michael Harner, so I'm hoping that will help deepen my experiences.

Thank you for listening, and many blessings to you!!

RE: journey for my power animal

I was giving myself a Reiki treatment the other night when I couldnt sleep and just as I began I thought I would meditate at the same time. Immediately that this thought came to me a beautiful black panther was suddenly standing in front of me. I was startled but not frightened, it was so sleek and powerful. The panther turned and was then high up on some black rocks lying down with its head looking west. The rocks were like shiny marble and carved out to read 'meditation'.

I was wondering if anyone had any comments about this and the significance of this animal.

Thanks 🙂

Hi
I've always felt an affinity with black panthers and guessed maybe I had one as a guide/power animal.....they come up in all sorts of places for me especially if i'm going through a sad time....its no surprise my first day on HP andi finda post on panthers.....this rang true for me...wondering if anyone else with a panther isa single parent?

Panther, Leopard: Reclaiming Power

The Panther or Leopard is a very ancient and powerful totem. It embodies aggressiveness and power but without solar influence. A Black Panther’s power is lunar. People with a Panther or Leopard totem have the ability to do a variety of tasks at the same time. Panther or Leopard people tend to be loners, very comfortable with themselves and are often drawn to other solitary people.

You must learn to pace your work and not push too hard. Women with Panther or Leopard totems often find themselves raising their children alone, whether it be through divorce or just circumstances of the job.
Panther or Leopard people can develop clairaudience, the ability to hear communications from other forms of life or dimensions. They should trust their thoughts and inner visions as they are based in reality.
A Panther or Leopard totems gives you a guide to help you on your path –
in the form of a real person – a mentor or teacher.

The Black Panther is endowed with great magic and power and this power will increasingly be experienced.

I might try a guided meditation to meet mine after reading lightseekers experience, it did sound truely beautiful...i dont usually meditate as such...(more contemplate than meditate) is that the best way to meet your guides or power animals? is therea guided meditationanyone could recommend? maybe if I meet my power animal i might help me to stop crying so much too.

Spiritalis, love your butterflies!

RE: journey for my power animal

I also have a black panther for a power animal, she is very sleek and powerful, and gives me strength when I feel a lot of fear.

Butterfly Maiden - I would love to know where you got your reading on Panther from - it is really lovely. Fits me too, have been a single mother in the past, and am a true multi tasker!

These are words I have read about panther.

Ask for Panther's help when

You feel frightened or threatened and need a strong sense of protection and guardianship

You've gone through or are going through a period of suffering, and need support into moving into a rebirth part of the cycle, in which you reclaim your true power.

YOu have been wounded in some way physically or emotionally,a nd need help in your healing and recovery.

You have been confronted with some aspect of yur life or character that has been denied, avoided, or has remained in the shadow, and youre ready to face this aspect..

It also says panther is for you if:
You do your best work under pressure, yet remain balanced by pacing yourself
You work towards a dream or goal by maintaining a quiet intention towards it.
You are very tactile and sensual, communicating through touch, and sensitive to touch of others (can be too much if the wrong sort)
You were born with insight, a unique gift of inner knowing, that has made you feel different from others.

I would also love to get a good journeying tape/cd, I have one but it is very short. I am fairly new to journeying, but not to meditation, so any ideas from anyone would be most welcome. I have heard of Michael Harner and Sandra Ingerman, but know little about either.
Love Deelighted.

I use the michael harner journeying tape, it is 30 mins long

The recording by leo Rutherford and Howard Charing is also good, it has an option of a short journey and a longer one

RE: journey for my power animal

Sandra Ingerman has a CD called

the beginners guide to shamanic journeying

It is available via Amazon.co.uk or the .com version.
It really is an audio book that explains the core technique
of shamanic journeying, and has a drumming track,
actually 3 tracks - calling, journeying and callback,
that lasts for about 12 minutes altogether.

It is IMHO an excellent introduction to journeying
and is good enough for everyday use.
If you want a longer drumming track then you can
buy longer tracks, or make your own via midi,
or use something like MP3 Butcher to splice
together a longer track e.g. 30 min's or 45 min's
or whatever length you want.

I would stick to shorter tracks for a while though,
you can always make a second journey if necessary,
and pick up from where you left it.

RE: journey for my power animal

I'm jealous :DI was recently researching power animals and bought a CD by Steven D Farmer, which comes with a book, and listened to the guided meditation a few times but it was just a mess! I've never seen things or heard things or anything during my attempts at meditation, I'm not a spiritual person (although I'm trying to be!). First attempt I was thinking about a badger but I was aware that I was thinking very hard and consciously decided to think about a badger. Second time I thought about rabbits. Then the third time I went back to badger (I think my brain felt guilty for not going back to badger the second time!) and then on the fourth occasion I was thinking about a whale, which took me a bit by surprise but I still didn't see anything or hear anything or anything like that. However, I was very happy with the idea of a whale being my spirit animal, and when I read up on it, I related to pretty much everything it said about the whale - I love being in or around water, I was already thinking of taking up a musical instrument to help to express myself (now learning Native American Flute!), I need help to improve my communication and I liked to think I had a whale alongside me. I even decided to adopt a whale, a female whale called Havannah, who I named my flute after.

But...I can't help thinking I just made the whole thing up! :eek:I'm not convinced that the experience was genuine.

Anyway, all these black panthers sound beautiful and I'm really pleased for you all. If you have any tips about how I can get further with this journey, please feel free to share them...I find it really hard to relax and I think this is probably preventing me from getting to a proper level of meditation where I'll actually get somewhere spiritually.

I find it quite frustrating! Anyone else have the same problem?

yarnie

when I teach people I sometimes hear that they think they have made it up
In our educational system we are encouraged to use the mind so much and not a lot of kudos is given to trust.

It is important to empty the mind of expectations or decisons beforehand as to what animal is your ally

I remember one man saying he was hoping for a butch lion or similar and his ally turned out to be a pink flamingo

You could try giving your mind a job to do b4 your next journey.
tell it you want it to observe all the details and help you recall them afterwards

it sounds as if you do have a strong connection to whale

Panther Magic this is indeed a very special form of totem magic as It can bring those that are seeking the predictive measure of the gifts of the earths magic as I am told by my Indian Guidethat panther magic is a very decisiveform of magic as itbrings about the absulute power of the animals movement to those that are able to adjust to the form of the expressions of the views of the surrounding that they are trying to percieveas this animal comes to your view be sure that they are telling a tale of the waysthat the earth is speaking to your ways of movement exspecially when you are building energies to create a place that you will bring about change that is eventually brought to the producing power of the panther... I am toldby the ways thatthat others are trying to produceof the shaministic place of the reconning mirroring the image of the animal totem is a direct aspect that canproductive negitive or positive placementinthe earths energies waiting is important as thepanther is a animal of territorial prospects and will always come with consequences that will produceeffectsof the indian knowledged with shaministic properties built within there totem....Something to think about...Gypsee

RE: journey for my power animal

Hi,
My name's Pat (You all can call me Pat.) :). I just journeyed for the first time last night to try to find my animal totem. It was inspired after watching Fight Club and talking to my friend who knows, apparently, quite a bit about this. I was very intrigued.

So anyway.. I "journeyed." I usually just meditate to relax and to get various points across to my subconcious, and it's not usually visual. Last night, though, it was, but not in the way everyone is describing here. I think it was more pictures than video, if that makes any sense. I still got out of it what I was hoping to (I think I found my totems {I have what's apparently called a double totem of Wolf and Spider, Wolf being the major of the two}). Anyway. I didn't hear anything in my journey, and it was more of snapshots than a straight, real journey. Is there something I'm doing wrong, or something I need to work at to increase this to make it real to me?

Thanks,
Pat
