Can anyone help me with the significance of grasshoppers? They have cropped up for me so often that I obviously need to pay attention to their meaning.
A couple of years ago it was lizards. Now grasshoppers. The most recent was one which appeared in my bathroom and then sat on my finger quite happily while I transported it outside. In fact it didn't want to leave!
What are they telling me?

Well Sunanda,
These little grasshopers are hopping about this week aren't they. they were discussed on this thread a couple of days ago.
To me grasshoppers jump suddenly from a stationary position forwards, never backwards, from grass root level........I will have a browze in my library and see if I can find anything else. 🙂

Grasshopper
The grasshopper has had a wide and varied symbology, considered both as scourge and a blessing. It has also been a symbol of good cheer and rebirth. There are many varieties of grasshoppers, but all move by leaping and hopping in conjunction with their flying. Grasshopper's appearance indicates a time in which we will experience great leaps of happiness, perhaps realizing our personal hopes and dreams, especially those associated with home and family.
Grasshoppers have tremendous jumping ability, capable of leaping 20-30 times their length. With their powerful legs, Grasshopper's appearance reminds us that if we wish to manifest our hopes and dreams, we must get off our haunches and move. Now is the time to take a chance, to jump in. This is sometimes difficult, but the appearance of Grasshopper promises success even if we do not recognize or know in what ways things will work out. Grasshopper promises they will - and often suddenly.
Grasshoppers have an instinct for finding places exposed to sun, a knack for being in warmth and light. Now that same knack is at play within our life. Now is the time to trust our own inner voice, our own intuition for what is right and sunny for us. Grasshoppers teach us to trust our inner voice and to act upon it. Those that do will find an uncanny knack of leaping into successful ventures.
In Asia many believe relatives and loved ones come back to life as crickets and grasshoppers, so they were always a symbol of good luck, and new communications to spirit - all of which encourage us to new leaps and new explorations.
Grasshoppers always hop upward or forward - never backward. They remind us that life only becomes difficult when we refuse to move forward. Grasshopper promises that if we make the move we will see our hopes and dreams begin to be realized.

Can you glean anything from this Sunanda???
Thanks, Fleur. I missed the fact that grasshoppers appeared on Oakapple's rat thread. How intriguing that two of us should be focusing on grasshoppers.
In fact, I am considering a 'leap forwards', so it's obviously a good omen.

come to think of it, it probably has a message for me as well, as it keeps getting my attention. I have been at a standstill for some time now, but within a couple of weeks i think I shall be hopping about here there and everywhere on various ventures, in fact I bet I won't have as much spare time to come on here :012: 😉
How funny, a grasshopper jumped onto my hand yesterday when I was helping my partner outside.

I thought I knew the difference, wolfen! I thought it was a grasshopper! (I just took the time to search for images of crickets on google and lo and behold, you may be right.) So what was it that appeared to be laying eggs on my back garden paving stones, not a metre from my sun lounger just a few days back?
And what made you say that it was probably a cricket anyway? The fact that it sat on my finger and didn't hop off?
So that begs the question: what significance do crickets have?:003:

Edited to ask if crickets are common in UK and how big they are.
There's information about the 'cricket' on this website.
