HI this is taken from Shamanism Dolfyn book.

When you begin to study about, meditate upon, invokeand honor animals you may fine that a particular animal keeps showing up in your lifein one way or another. For instance, you might find that wherever you move, Crow is always around.Or you might find Crow feathers on the ground quite often.Or you might find that Bear comes to you often in your dreams
When this begins to happen, it is not a coincidence. All humans belong to an animal clan. However, our culture dose not realize this, and so we go about our lives unaware of our animal totem. Begin to pay attention, because your animal clan has been calling to you and inviting you to join them all your life.
When you do think, by knowledge of the heart, that you have discovered your clan, you can try on their name.If it feels right, then that will be your sacred name. For example, all my life I have dreamed often of dolphins, been very attracted to them, read and learned all I could about them. Then one day in Florida I found myself swimming with two wild dolphins. By this time Ihad studied the medicine teachings of tribal peoples and knew that this was an important event. I opened my heart to get a message from the dolphins, who told me I was of their clan. That is why my sacred name is Dolfyn.
Do not choose your animal clan, they choose you.

How very true this is, my secred clan is the wolf, I have long been really interested in wolves and their lives, I am hoping to go trekking in poland one day and hope to see them in their natural environment.

At night I run with my pack which is fantastic and I really feel like a wolf sometimes. Such a great sensation.

RE: Finding your Sacred clan name

Hi lightwinds. I'm confused. I was given a sacred name which was Delfin because I'm like a dolphin in the water. As a child I used to stay in the swimming pool all day, everyday in summer, just jumping and diving and being dolphin like. I feel a special connection to dolphins. But when I did a guided meditation recently, the meditation introduced me to my totem animal, and to my complete surprise an eagle flew down and landed on my forearm!! I also love birds, and especially feel drawn to cockatoos. I remember once when I was having a very spiritual experience which lasted for months, there were about fifty or more cockatoos that arrived where we lived, and they used to fly around and around squarking. Across the road from us was a white mansion with a big, white tower, and cockatoos of course are white. They used to fly around that tower and I'd watch them for hours, couldn't escape them really. I don't know if that is why but they seem like a very spiritual bird to me. Then another time a neighbour had a cockatoo, and I could see it from my window and hear it constantly, so soothing to me. I get shivers all over when I see or hear cockatoos...they have a BIG affect on me, you would almost think I was meeting a holy person. I always think they have a beautiful message for me, one of hope and inspiration. Can anyone tell me what any of this means please? I don't know much about totem animals. Is it possible to have two clans or two animals...I think it could be.

RE: Finding your Sacred clan name

Hi Linnie yes I was confused at first as im no exspert on this matter, but in my understandingand exspereince, we have a clan Totem a power animal like maybe a wolf which is a teacher, so these people injoy giving and teaching of thing they have learned, and injoy shareing there wisdom with many peoples, you find these people like to give talks or join in discussions help were ever they can, share there love whith a family group, as Wolf comes alive within you,you may feel the need to share with other as a teacher of all life forms.
If the name you was given feel right to you then keep it, you will have many other animal totem around you for that life exspereince when it arises.
I found I belong to crow clan, but have sored like a eagle in meditations and been out walking and been surrounded with butterfly, butterfly show me what stage I was at in my life. hope this helps a bit.

RE: Finding your Sacred clan name

Ok guys...this may or maynot confuse things even further...
(the following info' has been taken from Earth Medicine...by Kenneth Meadows & The Animal-speak workbook..by Ted Andrews)

Linnie

Dolphin...Use the creative power of communication
Eagle...Time of great healing and spirit contact
Cockatoo...Strengthen your relationship bonds

Clans...

...of Fire
Falcons (21 March - 19 April)
Salmon (22 July - 21 August)
Owls (23 November - 21 December)

...Air
Deer (21 May - 20 June)
Crows (22 September - 22 October)
Otters (20 January - 18 February)

...Water
Woodpeckers (21 June - 21 July)
Snakes (23 October - 22 November)
Wolves (19 February - 20 March)

...Earth
Beavers (20 April - 20 May)
Brown Bears (22 August - 21 September)
Geese (22 December - 19 January)

Totems used in Earth Medicine to represent these elemental clans:
(Earth Medicine...Your earth walk is the way you live your life...)

The Hawk represents the clan of Fire
The Butterfly represents the clan of Air
The Frog represents the clan of Water
The Turtle represents the clan of Earth

The Hawk Clan
The hawk is a powerful bird which, like the eagle, can fly to great heights & thus be 'near the sun'...also associated with thunder & lightning.
Hawk people often have flashes of inspiration to spark new ideas & projects & a burning enthusiasm that is necessary to activate them, usually clear-sighted & energetic people.
Hawk people can gather much strength from the warmth of the Sun & invigoration from being outdoors after a storm when the air has been cleaned & purified

The Butterfly Clan
Possibly chosen as the totem for elemental Air, not merely because it is constantly moving/active, but because of its great transforming powers...it changes from a low moving & vulneralbe insect into the most beaufiful & delicate flying creature that weaves rainbows patterns in the air.
Butterfly people are always active - either physically, mentally or emotionally, with fresh ideas & often unexpected ways of doing things, they are maniulative & like to transform things, they have an affinity with air, so they will be invigorated & stimulated by being out in big open spaces & away from any kind of confiement whenever possible

The Frog Clan
The frog was chosen because it is a creature that undergoes dramatic changes in its development...from being a tiny, swimming tadpole with only a tail to a four - legged creature which is able to adapt iself to the environment of land...adapatability & flexibility in undergoing change & its ability to fit in with its surroundings.Frog people have deep emotions & likeflexibility & malleable arrangments rather than rigid situations...they like to be able to determine how the tide of events is flowing & to move with it.
Frog Clan people have an affinity with water & find calmness & a soothing effect from being near water - the sea/lake/river/stream or even a pond in the garden...so they shold seek to be near water as frequently as possible

The Turtle Clan
The Turtle is a creature of water & land, & as it swims in the water its shell looks like the land rising up out ot the sea. - its hard protective shell providing warmth, comfort & security...turles may appear to be slow moving but its persistence & tenaccity get it to where it wants to go.
Turtle people are usually methodical, practical & down-to-earth, they like to have skureness about things & the security of something solid behind them....they have determination, but make progress a step at a time.
Earth clan people have an affinity with the Earth itself & with plants & with growing things. They can find revitalization by visiting a park/woodland or some natural place with things of the Earth around them

We are all affected by each of these elements....but all have a great affinity with just one.

There are a couple of li

Hi Lightwinds

I am trying to save up to go to Poland and will hopefully get there within a few years.

As regards to running with wolves, I have been having sensations since i was young of being animals, the most memorable was when I was a unicorn seeing in fantastic colours. But wolf has been with me for years now. I know that I am being pushed towards teaching and I hope to do this through reiki. My other power animals are horse, magpie and just lately I have been aware of a man bear, he is a guide who changes from human to bear and I have been told that this is a life spirit who has been around for all my life and he accompanies through all my lives, I am still getting to know him but it is a great feeeling.

hi linnie, yes it is poss. to have more than one totem animal....in fact very desirable....like for instance one for water, air and land......though one will tend to predominate which may change after a while [because we change]

i'am not surprised by the cockatoos and you......i don't know that much about them but they sound very chatty a bit noisey and very gregarious.....sound familiar ??;).....lol !
in fact i saw/felt energy like a parrot or canary with you right from the start....close enough ![8D]

Hello again had to put son to bed
Well horse is among the strongest of all the animal clans.
Just as Horse has great physical power, so dose Horse medicine instill those who invoke and honor him with the ability to tap their own inner power. Horse has a very wide field of vision because of the way his eyes are placed in his head and his excellent eyesight.
We can invoke horse to broaden our vision and widen our horizons.

RE: Finding your Sacred clan name

Hi wise owl, well that just made me laugh 😀 Chatty and gregarious...I will be either one extreme or the other and very quiet. If I'm around peeps who want to hear what I have to say I will be noisy. But if I'm in company that is closed to me you won't hear the tiniest peep out of me and I fade away....

Yes, cockatoos will never be quiet. That is why I like them...I see, kindred spirits 🙂 People often try to edge away from me when I get talking...and I am like '" what's wrong? where are you going?...come back.......:(" They sense they will be there all day 😮

I don't know why I didn't discover the Shaman forum earlier. It is very interesting! I'll hang around here lurking but I promise to be quiet.[X(][:-] hehe

RE: Finding your Sacred clan name

I read this thread and wondered which animal would show itself. So yesterday while standing in the kitchen and looking out of the window i saw a Magpie coming toward the house (walking, that is) and suddenly i got a very warm feeling in my heart chakra, an enormous warmth, like my soul was touched. Then i went into my living room and a great tit (koolmeesbird) was there. how it came in, i have no idea. So i released the little bird by opening the window... I felt very honoured. A little soul visited me at approximately the moment after i had seen the magpie! What do you make of that Lightwinds (did you get my email, by the way)?

I saw Stormdeva's list about the animals belonging to the zodiac, i would be salmon?
Strangely enough i have a huge painting i made of a salmon in my living room. So i guess we have more than 1 clan we belong to? Please advise.

So I have an Otter and Butterfly .. what is an otter for?

For some reason I seem to be surrpunded by animals at the moment.

I also keep dreaming of a snake and spider, and the other week I had a deer and a dove, and for the past couple of days I have been dreaming of horses! Guess I could start my own Zoo!

Lightwinds, thank you for your answer! Thanks for confirming and making clear what i was confused about because of the surprise and good feeling.
MC i think an otter stands for agility and swiftness (my intuition.) Butterfly for fragility and exploring spirit..... As to the rest of your dreams "zoo" i leave to the other shamanists to explain.

Hi MC

See if the following helps...

Otter: Time to use your creativity & your skills together
Butterfly: New love & joy coming
Snake:Time to shed the old; new birth
Spider: Don't take the round about way; weave something new
Deer: Move gently into new areas
Dove:Time of peace & prophecy
Horse:Trust your intuition in new travels & endeavors

(the above is taken from The Animal-Speak Workbook)

Beats my dream...I was dreaming about Bournemouth last night[&:]

Hi Lightwinds

Thanks for your post, it is great when guides make themselves known. My animal guides have been with me for years and I enjoy my dream journeys with them - I am usually dragged away from whatever meditation I am doing to run and play with them (I can be quite exhausting but very very exhilerating to say the least) lol :).

My magpie is very mischievous and know that when I am sorely tempted by something he is more dominant in my life, I am very aware of all that my animals and guides are revealing to me and what they are urging me to do. I have just enrolled to do my reiki masters today as intuition was strong that I must do it.

For all thos who want to know what various animals mean I have found a great website [DLMURL] http://www.sayahda.com/cycle.htm [/DLMURL] which has loads of animals on there.

Just one question lightwinds, what is he significance of unicorn in my life, it was my first connection with guides and has sorta stuck around ever since.

Love an dblessings

RE: Finding your Sacred clan name

MC, How strange my son who 6 years old must have new your were going to asked that one he brought home a Dinosaurs book from school.
Diplodocus, who name means the Double Beamed. He is the longest of all dinosaurs. He measureds as much as 87 feet, but he is more lighty and slimly built than Brachiosaurus. Ashore, he walks with his long nect stetching far out in front to balance the tail behind.
Diplodocus dose not waste much time walking, for his head and mouth are tiny. His body is huge. As he can take only very small bites with his weak teeth, it takes a lot to make a meal for him. So Diplodocus has to spend most of his time steadily eating to keep himself well fed.
Maybe you should look at certain foods you eat, and not to eat any heavy snacks before going to bed.
Maybe you need more exercise. You dont need a big Dinosaurs stomping around at night
he might jump on you and you might POP, he he:D

Hi Lightwinds

Thanks very much for the info on Unicorns, as I was reading your thread earlier (at work) I became very aware of a lovely unicorn looking over my shoulder reading the thread also. He is a very majestic creature, almost humanlike in his expressions and very intelligent, I feel so much better on going forward with my reiki now that I know he is around, I also seem to be surrounded by males as well! not sure why that is but there we go 🙂

I seem to be finding so many guides now I am starting to get dizzy with all this help flying around lol [sm=FIFangel.gif] I feel truely blessed that all these guides are around and helping me with all I do.

Oh I am soo glad I joined his little comunity! 🙂

It happened again, Lightwinds! Today the great tit honoured me with a visit again, maybe it was the same one as the first time. Came in through my bedroom window, flew around in the living room and waited to be released through the side window in the living room. As it happened twice in a short time I wanted to share this and ask your view again.

I meant that all my guides are male, I have 2 female one s but all the rest are male. No I don't wear a uniform at work. I am grounding regularly so I don't get to flighty, although sometimes it is nice to fly.

I recived all my reiki masters stuff today so I can now get started with that.

The bird is as you described it Lightwinds. The dutch-english dictionary gave the name "great tit" as a translation to "koolmees". A lovely bird.
