On another forum someone posted with respect to a life crises and mentioned the power animals involved.

One was a red tail hawk, the other was a snake.

A few days later, I woke up, opened the curtains, and there was a dead red tail hawk outside my front window. It had collided with the window.

A few night later, I have a dream in which I pull a dead snake out of my spine. Prior to having that dream, I have a dream in which I kill my mother. Strangulation with a cord.

This person had been bit by a copperhead snake and had not been treated when he posted. He seemed to be thinking of letting the venom take its course and kill him. His relationship with his mother was very troubled.

Is it possible that a dead red tail hawk is now my power animal?

If so, does anyone know what it might mean to have a dead power animal?

Any insights would be appreciated.

In a shamanic context, there's no such thing as "dead." Everything is alive. From a healing standpoint, confronting these beings as "dead" may mean that these life forces are latent and need to be retrieved for you. A shift in your power needs to happen for them to be able to engage you, and vice versa.

Consider the snake is more about your own kundalini awakening, and not that it's a guide.

Dream well!

Absolutely! However, there are shamanic cultures who speak of "dead" power animals. This is a clue to the shaman (in those cultures only) that the person with the dead power animal is going to die themselves. Since you are at least well enough to be posting on HP, you can forget about this interpretation.:)
Again (as in my reply to you on another thread), the most useful question is - what do your spirit helpers say about this?
Also, why would your power animal have changed? I suggest you go to your original power animal and ask what is going on.

Hi Cowan,

I'm not sure if I have a power animal. I have a strong relationship with crows and ravens and robins. I had never even seen a red tail hawk before this. I wonder if it means the person in question died? I hope not.

A lot of my dreams have had to do with my own death, so let's not rule that out. We all gotta go sometime. If I go, I just don't want to pass into that dark, horrible world, where I was when I pulled the dead snake out of my spine. That would suck.

Actually, THAT'S the advice I want.

I want to get ready for the next world, can a Shaman help me with that?

When I wrote before I was assuming that you journeyed. I’m sorry.
You have a power animal. Everyone does (if you didn’t you would not have survived this long). However, most people never connect with .

Yes.
I guess, from the red-tailed hawk, that you are in North America? (So ignore my question on the other thread about where you live. I don’t know any practitioners in North America.) Your best bet would be to look and see if there is anyone close to you.

Or keep asking questions here – I’m sure we’ll all do our best to help.

Thanks Cowan, for your response and great recommendations and most of all your kind attention! 🙂 Hope I can be of as much asstance to you going forward.

I should have mentioned, the first animal I dreamed of after that was a parrot. It was sitting one someone's shoulder. It flew immediately over, perched on my shoulder, and shot me a look of such love. When I get in touch with that love, it's actually filling my whole body and soul right now.

It might the the parrot. 🙂
