I too am puzzled by my spirit guide. My great-grandfather was a medium and his guide was a native-american from the blackfoot tribe called Golar. As a child my nanny painted a picture that was supposedly the image of Golar and he came to her often although she rejected her gifts and connection to the spirit world. The first I heard of Golar was when as a little girl I did a painting of an indian...my mother showed my nanny who not only produced her picture but also one my mother had done at a similar age. They were all clearly of the same man. Golar still appears to my mother and although I still see him occasionally I'm not convinced that he is my spirit guide as I'm often aware of others around me.:)
Hawkwind, that probably doesn't help you much but when I read your post it kind of rang true with me as although I'm not religious I am very spiritual and have also gone back to church a few times recently.:) I think like all good things, your spirit guide makes herself apparent when you least expect it![&:]

I learnt on another site mantic light that in a med you can get false spirit guides that is actually your ego speaking. When it is your true spirit guide they will fill you with such love and will not feed your ego. When in a med if you ask to meet your guide if they appear on your right this usually means that this is true and if on your left false as the artisttic side and spiritual side of the right sees them and the logical side of the brain is the left-hope ive got this right lol!!! So to prove if your guide is real meditate and ask your guide to appear and see where they stand this might prove it to you!!

We in this life have many guides...they come and go a bit like some of our friends...they are there for a certain purpose...then seem to disappear (until perhaps the next time they are needed) a bit like Earth Angels I guess...
so it's possible that this guide was only here for a brief moment to try to help you understand something.
I for example have a Nun who is my life guide...she has been with me since the day I was born and I first saw her when I was very ill as a child, she still 'shows' hereself to me on a regular basis...just so I don't forget she's around...but, I also have my other guides...the one's that help me with my daily life, and therapies...all of whom show themselves to me as Animals...as I relate to them better this way.
But, it all takes time and some people never see their guides, that does not mean their not there...they are, be kind to yourself...stop trying soooooo hard ~ relax and in time who knows

Angelic,

Isn't right that the left side of your brain controls the right side of your body and vice versa....in which case does the meaning of the side your guide appears on change if you are left handed?[&:]

don't worry too much about your guides and finding out about them, they will re establish themselves when you have need for them. It is hard when trying to work with guides, as storm says, they do come and go and do not stay constant. A lot of my guides are also animals as I relate a lot better to animas but with bear he is not around a lot, he is there when I need him but my main guide is a wolf.

When I was learning shamanism I read that if a guide is not around then it is because he is happy with what we are doing and will come back when we need help! (I also read the reverse somewhere as well lol) so it depends on person to person.

The other thing I must say is that you need to relax a lot more and not push so much, meditate on relaxation and going withthe flow and you will then feel a lot better. It is very confusing to begin with as when you begin to open up you tend to get flooded with images and it is hard to seperate everything. Take you time and you will start to get the results you want.

Ah, Hawkwind, I too am here to learn patience this time around! 😀

I recall the words of two friends of mine:

1. "You get what you need slowly ... if you got it all at once it would blow your mind."

2. "Do nothing and everything gets done."

Just wish 2 could also be applied to the ironing, hoovering etc. :D:D:D

Dont know if this helps at all but I took my first shamanic journey last night to find my spirit guide. Several animals came to me and following the instructions I had I asked each of them if they were my totem animal (I upset snake as I know I asked in a slightly disapointed voice as I had hoped she wouldnt be... Have some penance to do there I think!) . Then bear appeared out of the woodland on my right. We spoke and danced a while and then I asked her if she wanted to climb back up the tree with me. She then jumped into my right hand and disappeared and I climbed back up the tree.

I remember thinking it slightly odd that the bear went to my right hand as I am VERY left hand dominant and I thought it 'weird' she jumped into my right hand.

It now makes more sense based on what Angelic put in her post.

Possibly the 'side' your guide appears has some merit.

Dear Hawkwind,

It took me several years to make connections with my guides even though I was excelling in so many areas on a spiritual basis.

I can be quiet impatient and when I finally made contact I understood the delay. They had lovingly delayed contact in order to help me develop the qualities of discipline, patience and trust. It was worth the wait.

If you were a guide for yourself - what aspects would you help yourself with!!! Ah yes patience!!!!!!

I have also learnt that my guides are more interested in helping me develop certain quailites rather than having ongoing connections with them!

i think that makes a lot of sense chocbab! My spirit guide has contacted me once and it scared me at the time. That was quite a while ago. Since then I've had my aura read which gave me more of an understanding of my purpose here; and reading this thread I now know that theres no rush for contact again - which is good because Im so busy with my studies!!!

Yep storm is right

Your guides are there u just need to be patient and be calm so u can hear them

It does take time, and sometimes they may not want to show themselves unti they are sure that you are ready. So do not be dissapointed.

The first name that popped onto my head was when i was sitting down stairs reading a book and I silently asked who my guide was the name ( running bear came up) and looking up i fiund out that he does exist. And is becoming more and more familir to me.
