Nope not at all....although some Reiki practicioners will dowse...
Dowsing is a tool that is used in many different ways....an example of which I will use a crystal pendulum when doing Crystal Therapy...it helps when choosing crystals for my clients...let me see if I can explain...

Dowsing can be thought of as an extension of the intuition, since it is used to gain access to information that exists at the subconscious level of the Inner Being. It could be said that it strengthens or amplifies the intuition because it converts the subtleties of the intuition into a more obvious form of physical motion. When you ask a question of the pendulum, it is your own intutition that answers it. The pendulum (dowsing rods whatever you are using) merely allows you to physically see what the intuition already knows. As an extension of the intuition, the pendulum can give you information from the same two sources as the intuition: from your own subconscious mind, and from your guidance, spirit or guardian angel.

This is of course just my humble opionion...hope it helps

you are MOST helpful Stormdeva!!! But a couple of more questions. How does one ask a question of the pendulum? Do you hold it over a specific area of the body or do I feel where to move the dowsing rod to and then focus in on the healing?

Hello again

Before you can actually use any form of pendulum/rods whether it be in healing or in another way...you need to determin a yes/no response from it...I am still learning to use the rods...so lets go with the pendulum which I have used for years...

Hold your pendulum via its chain/string/chord between the thumb and forfinger if this is comfortable, then ask either aloud or mentally..."Pendulum, please show me YES" Give the pendulum time to respond and observe the direction of the swing as it responds. If the swing is modest at first, don't be concerned, because it takes a while for a pendulum to begin to vibrate with you. After you have determind the YES response, ask the pendulum to show you the NO response in the same matter.
Check the YES/NO response in this way, the first few times you do a session with the pendulum....start with the obvious kind of questions...ie; is my name____, and wait for the yes/no response, hold the pendulum over certain items...again ask is the an orange/apple/pear...sometimes for example holding it over an orange and asking is this a pear....seems silly perhaps but you need to become intune with this tool and this is the simplist way...eventually move on writing 5/6 colours on to bits of paper...screw them up and scatter them...then ask your pendulum to find such & such colour...until you are finally able to pick out each colour just by asking the once and that it is correct.

Lastly be patient this does not always come natually to some people and can/will take time...to others it's a piece of cake...enjoy!

Hi there

I am familiar with dowsing and get some good signals and responses from it. Though Dowsing and pendulum work does not call to me.

I do know however that Rose quarts and amathyst are good for predicatble readings.

Here is an experiment.
Hold the pendulum infornt of your sternum about 2-3 inches and watch is circle the closer u go in the smaller the circles the futher out u go the bigger the circles. Pendulums can also balance the chakras

I spoke to my mother last night and she told me it was not a for of dowsing that my grandmother did, yet my mother isn't quit into this to begin with, but she told me she would hold a "V" shaped stick, by the ends, and the stick would bend towards the ground if the was water underneathe.

Yep that sounds about right...but it's still dowsing...it's dowsing for water...just using a different tool from a pendulum[&:]

(No wonder I couldn't find this thread way down in the list where it was the last time I looked with the intention to reply! 😀 )

I just wanted to add to the excellent on-line dowsing tuition above, that when I was learning to dowse I was told to always ask permission, once Yes and No have been established of course (whoops, an echo of another thread there, I think!!! 😉 ).

Three questions to ask:

May I?
Can I?
Is it right to at this time?

Only if I get a clear Yes on all three do I ever go ahead, and this applies just as much if I am dowsing for someone else who is looking for answers (or their lost car keys!) as to myself. If the pendulum says No, then I just have to tell them sorry, but I'm not allowed to ask that. It could be they're trying to do a bit of snooping. Dowsing usually works best for other people, my ego less likely to get in the way! 😀

I do mainly use a pendulum, though I also have rods - two lengths of thick copper wiring, bent to make handles, which were given to me by a woman on a dowsing foray to a ruined priory, she told me her husband was a plumber and they bought it by the mile. Copper apparently is the best conductor. So dowsing tools don't have to be at all fancy, as you know! 🙂

Now these questions that I ask, do I ask them before I begin dowsing or during? Do I ask them in front of the person I am dowsing or before I meet with them? Do I ask them out loud or in my head? Does that person ask anyquestions , while I am dowsing?

I do it this way:

Ask BEFORE dowsing.

I think it's perfectly OK to dowse in front of the person if with them - I just explain that first I am seeking permission (Them Upstairs, my Higher Self - not sure which, but I always get an answer). If not with them, eg on the phone, I say the same thing.

Out loud or in your head? Either. Skeptics can be asked to ask the question in THEIR head, the pendulum will still answer!!! Then I find them less skeptical. 😉

Yes, by all means let the person ask questions - it may be ongoing, in that the answer to one question leads to the next one. You may have to remind them that the pendulum can only answer a question with a Yes/No answer.

Other people may well have something else/different to add to this. Hope it's helpful anyway.

If they want to ask a question about a NEW topic, I go through the asking of permission again, on that subject. It only takes a few seconds. Also, IMO, if you are practicing to start with, ask a question to which you already know the answer, as Stormdeva suggested above, something really easy like asking if your cup is a saucer, if the dog is a cat. I don't think you need ask permission for that sort of thing. Have fun finding out! 🙂

Just another way of 'asking permission' before doing anything...once you are well practised with your pendulum and happy with the answers you are getting...is to just ask the pendulum if it is happy to work with you...if it says 'yes' then go for it...if it says 'no' then respect this...
I have many pendulums and some of them just will not work with me with certain things...an example the pendulum I use when i go got to work with horses...refuses to work with me if I am about to dowse with my Tarot cards...they just know where they do and do not want to work...
This may not be the case with everyone...but certainly with me:)

Yep that sounds about right...but it's still dowsing...it's dowsing for water...just using a different tool from a pendulum

I was saying on another thread that people are often happy to accept dowsing with rods for water, like big companies employ dowsers to find leaks in underground pipes etc.

My great grandfather was very good at this, maybe born and brought up as a desert man(he came from Noth Africa..Sahara and was a traveller) it was probably helpful. However, he and his son and some other family members were involved with the British army at certain times in assisting to find water and other things and were well known for it.

I would love to know how this workks..do lots of it myself, we should run a proper investigation I reckon.

I thought I'd ask my questions on this thread to keep it all together, if thats ok.

I've just asked my crystal to show me yes or positive and to my surprise it swung anti-clockwise for yes and clockwise for no or negative. Is this normal. If I hold it over someones organ and it swings negatively or no would that insicate an imbalance there and positive mean its ok.?

It is an amethyst and I've noticed it has a flaw in it, does that matter, I dont feel that it does, bu not too sure.

I was using search to find this old thread last night, and was amazed to see that it's active again ... I bet you didn't realise you were replying to a post nearly two years old! 😀

No worries, though, 'cos IMO it was a good thread, so it's great that it's seeing the light of day once again. I wanted to find it to post a link in the Reiki forum, having promised to do so for a discussion on methods of sending distant healing. I use a pendulum for this.

I guess everyone will have their own interpretation ... mine is probably closest to my own intuition ... or higher self. Others may call it God.

Also, it's quite common for people dowsing with crystals to ask permission of the crystal to use it for dowsing, rather than asking the "thing" that they are dowsing for. Not everyone asks permission and it comes down to a matter of personal beliefs.

What do you mean by "the thing" Giles? Are you referring perhaps to using a pendulum to search for a missing item? Would that item be the "thing".

I ask permission to dowseregardless of whether I'm sending Reiki, finding lost car keys for someone, or answering a question for the lovelorn. Often in the last case, permission is not granted ... I get a No! 😉
