Me and 2 friends payed a visit to Long Meg & Her Sisters today (Penrith, Cumbria) we only live about an hours drive away and none of us had been there so we thought it was a nice day so what the hey. Anyway to start with I was quite taken aback by the size of the circle....it was huuuge compared to other stone circles I have visited. I was quite upset by the fact that there is a tarmac road leading to a farm right through the middle of the circle, I think a letter to the national trust is in order, as theres no reason i could see why the road could not go around the circle. Anyway I tried to not let it get to me and concentrated on the energy of the place which was really good. I felt quite at peace there and although there was a few people around it felt like I was quite happily on my own. I walked up to long meg herself.....quite an impressive stone and much larger than I expected, I was also amazed by the spiral carvings in the stone which you can only just make out, i wonder what the significance of the spirals is? I could make out 3 spirals on the stone and i was pleased to see people had left gifts of flowers, fruit and money.
I found a stone in front of long meg which was lying flat on the ground and decided it was a good place for a spot of meditation. My friends went to try and count the stones because apparantly its impossible to count the same number of stones twice. My friends only helped to strengthen this myth 🙂
Anyway I found that I relaxed into the meditation very quickly and easily and once I was there I got the usual assortment of colours and random images until towards the end of the meditation i appeard to be looking at a person from behind who had a very hairy head and seemed to be swaying, then The image changed and I seen a huge black stallion with a long mane, rearing up on its hind legs. It seemed very powerful. It was about this time my friends wandered back over to me and we sat and had a chat about the place and I got the urge to go and give reiki to long meg. I told my friends about the urge and they said "go for it, we dont mind waiting" which was nice, so I thanked them and went over to the stone. There were 2 tourists relaxing by the stone but I figured they would'nt mind if I sat on the otherside from them and so I sat down, placed my hands on the stone and began with the reiki. It seemed like from the start I was being bombarded with images and I couldnt make sense out of a lot of the things I was seeing apart from 2 things which stand out in my mind. The first thing is that it appeard that i was looking down on the circle from above, and all outside the circle was a total chaos of differant coloured energy, zooming around, uncontrolled, bouncing of each other and generally being random in its movements, but inside the circle was one solid colour which matched the shape of the circle, the tranquil energy inside the circle appeard to shift calmly from blue to red, always calm and always the same circular shape. Quite differant from the chaotic energys outside it. Also the road was no longer there.
The next thing I seen I appeard to be standing behind the hairy guy again but we were in the centre of the circle, this time i noticed he appeard to be holding a large slender stick in his right hand. He appered to walk actually into the ground in the centre of the circle itself, like gravity was not important he was walking straight down into the floor which opened up to allow him to enter. As the ground opened, inside was a bright, white light.
Next thing I know my friends are waiting impatiently by the car...I had being doing reiki on the stone for just over 30 minutes!....gotta love those time dialations 🙂 so I left a small offering to the stones and got into the car and headed off. I will also add that I felt quite drained after the reiki, which I have never felt before, usually after doing reiki i feel totally energized and refreshed but a quick 15 minute doze sorted thart out.
All in all I had a real good time and some wicked experiences today. I will definatly be paying a

RE: Experiences at a stone circle during meditation and reiki.
Hi Dr Mambo
Both me and Sue went to France and the stones at Carnac, which had been altered and moved over the years and not much energy was around us. We left and drove back to the place we were staying at and on the way saw a notice for a monolith. We stopped by the road and walked for a while, as it was in the woods, we came across this massive standing stone. a few people were around, but not as many as at Carnac. We went up to the stone and hugged it, as we always do, the people around looked upon us, and when we spoke to each other, they knew we were English. You could see the thoughts going through there heads Mad English. But the energy from the stone was enoromous and we were doing our thing giving a kick start so to speak. Then the funniest thing happened all the other people around came up to the stone and hugged it as well. When we moved people came to take our places and we watched as all the people touching the stone seemed so peaceful. We left knowing that the people hugging the stone would never be the same agian and we had passed a bit of love around them. Long live stones and energy.
Regards
Ian
RE: Experiences at a stone circle during meditation and reiki.
Ian your posting made me laugh because it brought back a memory of my friend (Somerset Angel) and I when we were at the Avebury circle last year. We were going around one lot of standing stones testing out the different energies coming from the stones. An American family came along and were videoing the scenery. The Dad came over to us after a few minutes and asked what we were doing. Somerset Angel tried to explain but he looked more and more puzzled! I then took his hands and placed them on different parts of the stone and asked him to 'feel' if there was any difference. He shook his head no then said "come on kids let's find somewhere else" and they all hurried off, probably glad of their escape from the mad English women!!! lol.
Love and light

Some folklore and legend about Long Meg..
Folklore and Legend
The stones are associated with many legends, and have been the source of superstition for centuries, in fact the stones are associated with three common stone circle legends: petrification, uncountable stones and the association with severe weather.
Petrification: Legend tells that the stones were originally a coven of witches, turned to stone by the Scottish wizard Michael Scott. This legend is common throughout Britain with variation, stone circles have been petrified sinners, wedding parties and giants.
Uncountable stones: The stone circle is said to be uncountable, if anybody can count the same number twice then Michael Scott's spell will be broken and the witches released from their granite prisons.
Severe Weather: Severe storms are said to be the result of trying to move the stones, a supernatural protection for those who would destroy the circle. One story suggests a local squire, Colonel Lacy, was planning to blow the stones to smithereens for some whim in the late 1700s (perhaps to find the hidden treasure that was long believed to be buried under such stones). Before his men could light the powder a fearful storm suddenly started to rage and the attempt was abandoned.
Long Meg herself has been a fertile source of legend, said to take its name from a local witch, Meg of Meldon, who was alive in the early 17th century. Another theory suggests that the stone was named after another 17th century legend about Long Meg of Westminister, a giantess who was traditionally buried under a large blue gravestone at Westminster Abbey. The stone actually marks the burial place of monks who died during the Black Death. Another snippet of folklore tells how the standing stone will bleed if it is damaged.
Spirals are a common celtic symbol, heres what I found out:
According to Kate Johnson at Arizona State University, the structure of some Celtic spirals found in ancient rock carvings was analyzed by an archaeologist on a computer in 1991. He compared these spiral patterns with astrological events that had occurred over the course of the last millennium. His findings were astounding. According to his research, the spirals were accurate representations of visible planetary configuartions and the brightest fixed stars during total eclipses.
Others think the Celtic spiral symbolizes the seasons of life and the cycles of time. The patterns of life are like the spiral, starting at the center and moving ever-outward. Our lives wind back around our center, yet never return to exactly the same place. It can represent serenity, with fluid, gentle lines; or it can represent chaos and madness with dizzying, confusing linear patterns.
Some scholars of Celtic art believe the direction of the spiral may be significant. They think that clockwise spirals are associated with the sun and harmony with the Earth, while counter-clockwise spirals are associated with manipulation of nature in the form of pagan spells.
The spiral is the symbol most often seen in ancient burial mounds and sacred places. Many believe spirals have mystical powers to prevent evil from entering into the sacred tomb of one who has passed into the Otherworld. Some people even today, claim that if a person is left alone in a cave with spirals decorating the walls, he would experience altered conciousness, and possibly even experience hallucinations and seizures.
