Interesting link with the dolphin and greek gods .. kinda like the other week when I had a dream of the deer and the link with Artemis ..

Just though I'd copy and paste this in case others have had similar dreams ..

Dolphin Totem Meanings and Symbolism

This page on the dolphin meaning comes in response to an overwhelming series of impressions I've gotten from the dolphin. They're everywhere!
From earrings, to movies. Wallpaper to conversations. Dolphins keep swimming in my awareness at every turn. That means it's time to swim along!
Considered the "king of fish" by many ancient cultures, dolphin meaning is closely associated with kingly qualities. Not the dominating kind. Observe the dolphin for any length of time and you know if dolphins ruled the world they would be gracious in their reign.
And that is the core theme to dolphin meanings. Grace.
A quick-list of symbolic dolphin meaning includes:

 • Playfulness
 • Transcendence
 • Gentleness
 • Harmony
 • Intelligence
 • Contentment
 • Friendship
 • Community
 • Resurrection
 • Generosity
 • Power

Christian symbolism conveys the dolphin as an aspect of Christ. Dolphins seen in Christian art are symbolic of resurrection. Some artists utilize the protective, stabilizing, compassionate demeanor of the dolphin as a message of wellbeing to the pure of heart. Some artistic renditions speak of dolphins transporting the spirits of the faithful to Christ's side upon leaving their physical bodies.
This dolphin meaning is mimicked in ancient Greece where legend tells us the dolphin was responsible for carrying the souls of the dead to the Islands of the Blessed.

Also in Greece, the dolphin is a compatriot of both the god Apollo (sun) and the goddess Aphrodite (moon). Both lunar symbolism and solar symbolism are represented in the dolphin.

 • Sun Dolphin meanings: Active, Life, Vibrant, Health, Renewal, Intelligence
 • Moon Dolphin meaning: Hidden power, Intuition, Dreams, Conception, Feminine

This is a key understanding because the dolphin meaning is connected with themes of duality. It has to do with the dolphin being both fish and mammal. It is both of the water, and an air breather. Ergo, dolphin symbolism talks to us about "being in two worlds at once." Indeed, the dolphin is a great conveyor of the concept of yin and yang.
Along with the divine Apollo sun and Aphrodite moon associations, other deities associated with the dolphin include:

 • Poseidon (Greek), Neptune (Roman)
 • Themes of kingship, rulership, authority, strength, dominion, freedom, intelligence, compassion and fatherly protection over the entire kingdom (sea).

 • Eros (Greek), Cupid (Roman)
 • These gods contribute dolphin meaning of: Love, friendliness, playfulness, sensuality, desire, exploration, curiosity, attraction and joy.

 • Dionysus (Greek), Bacchus (Roman)
 • These deities underscore the dolphins ability to uplift, and carries themes of joviality, freedom, wildness, abandon, creative self-expression.

Greek myth indicates Dionysus was known to turn himself into a dolphin and transported the shrine at Delphi where the cult of dolphin worshippers convened.
The term delphi is noteworthy as the Greek word for dolphin is delphis and its derivative, delphys means womb. This incorporates more lunar and feminine attributes to the dolphin scene.

In Celtic animal symbolism, the dolphin as a highly honored creature as it was seen as the protector of sacred wells and sacred water. The dolphin, to the Celtic mind, is the watcher of the waters, and the guardians of all things water-associated.
Pirate lore also hails the dolphin as a symbol of protection. Indeed, legend admits dolphin sightings were often exaggerated into incredibly fantasies of mermaids. Sailors often understood the spirit of mermaids lived in the heart of the dolphin, and ancient stories of the sea refer to dolphins metamorphosing into beautify sea maidens (and mermaids) if seen under just the right conditions.
Whether this is true or not remains to be confirmed. What is true is countless tales of dolphins interacting with humans in friendly, even protective ways. This colors the dolphin meaning in hues of compassion, caring, community and generous spirit in reaching out to connect with another species.

Hi dazzle,

Yes, I have some thoughts... don't eat Cheese before you go to sleep... or... do - as a tasty device for getting in touch with your unconscious - the choice (as they say) is yours.

Cheese before bed time would be like rocket fuel to a busy dream-time traveler such as yourself, daz... so be careful with your choice from the Cheese Board: From personal experimentation, I can tell you: Cheddar (2oz/century) for traveling to the past; Double Gloucestershire (1.76oz/century) for traveling to the future; dairy-lea triangles (0.5 triangle/disagreeable tummy rumble ) for traveling to the bathroom :D...WHAT am I on about!

Back to the yellow dolphin in the swimming pool. There's not much to go on... anything else about the dream ~ what went before and after...? You say the dolphin was speaking to you... I don't speak dolphin either, many people don't (huh!), but.... did you glean the general gist....:D

haha regarding the cheese, although I only eat cottage cheese nowadays .. 😀

The swimming pool aspect had a sense of fun like being on holiday, the sun was shinning and there were people (I didn’t know) playing around .

The dolphin just popped up out of the blue as they say .. It looked yellow could of been a dirty golden colour also .. The yellow I first thought was connected with my solar plexus . . As mentioned with the kundalini a while back and in regards to my physical mediumship my solar plexus is under enormous strain . Perhaps the dolphin brought in some much needed energy . The dolphin at times being the symbol / representation as the medium between two worlds and between conscious / subconscious so perhaps there was a connection / conduit in place to receive some much needed replenishment of energy .

What the dolphin was saying I had no idea although the gist of it was of a happy vibe / nature .. I felt nothing to be concerned about ..

Also the swimming pool / water aspect could relate also with emotions, had quite a tough journey emotionally speaking so could also be a symbol of happier times ..

It interested me the greek god aspects again because of previous encounters, perhaps there is a multitude of meanings / symbols going on here ..

The latter part of the dream just before I awoke was walking down a long corridor to see my ex’s sister lying on a bed crying .. I haven’t seen her for years nor spoken to her ..

Perhaps the dolphin energy allowed me to also to project to her somehow through an emotional link that was being expressed / emitted from the sister ..

Had another dream a few days ago about a giant white rabbit that was in a cage . The rabbit was so big that it couldn't move because the cage was so restricting .

I managed to free the rabbit from the cage and just hold it in my arms, although it was the size of a dog lol ..

Don't tell me .. Don't eat carrots before bedtime .. 😀

White Rabbits -- they are loaded with symbolic meaning...... what did your White Rabbit mean to you?

For me W.S. when I looked into the cage and saw the rabbit my first impression was for God’s sake what is that rabbit doing in a cage that 10 times too small for it .

The rabbit was lying on its back and the rabbits feet were poking out of the cage bars as it was too small, my attention then went to the rabbits eyes next where there was a deep sorrow in them and a deep reflection of sufferings almost submissive in posture .

I felt the pain of the rabbit and on some level I was the rabbit . I was looking at myself .

What I thought was really interesting is that the rabbit had given up the struggle and surrendered to it’s environment and to it’s current way of life and yet there was no anger expressed, in a way the rabbit was kinda peaceful perhaps traumatized, it was most definitely in another state in such a way where the rabbits mind was elsewhere . It’s possible that the rabbit wasn’t even aware of the sufferings had and perhaps in a funny sort of way the rabbit was no longer suffering because of such an altered state ..

I love the surrender part that I connected with for much of that is going on with me at the moment and I am one to suffer in silence lol .

The cage and the restriction followed by it’s freedom ties in nicely also with how things are developing for me .. I have spoken often of there being a process in life and there is a process that has been of growth and restriction and of more growth if you get me, as one surrenders and goes with the flow there is less resistance and at a point no more blocks / obstacles to overcome .

In a way it’s like transcending mind sets .. and entertaining new perceptions of self and life as one grows / transforms, similar to what the metamorphosis of the kundalini brings forth, just another beautiful process in my eyes ..

There’s quite a mystical feel to the white rabbit as a symbol just as there is to the dolphin, I seem to get a lot of dreams of animals lately, there was the huge snakes head lol and a week or so ago I was in spirit connecting with a herd of running horses .. all to do momentum, movement, energy .. All part of the process of healing, knowing, transforming, loving, self .

That's really interesting, daz, thanks.

As you probably know by now, daz, I'd prefer if at all possible to discover things/ work things out for myself. However, from my vague recollection gained from reading a few philosophy books, (before I stopped reading anything that was going to tell me something I'd rather work out for myself) of what it is to be self-realized, which you have previously said that you are... well, I thought, being self-realized... that was it - job done! So, I genuinely don't get why you're talking about growing, transcending and all the rest of it?

So, I genuinely don't get why you're talking about growing, transcending and all the rest of it?

I understand your comments made W.S.

My experience of self realization lasted for a relatively short while . What I mean by that is the experience or the realization became me at a certain point along my path / journey / process .

20 years of self enquiry and countless lifetimes brought me to that point . Some individuals live within the realization for a few seconds, minutes and some for many years .

Some drift in and out out such a realization but once one has realized there is never a divide between what one has realized and what one is .

When I came down (and that is exactly how it felt) and as I became aware of my conscious mind body I felt immediately the sufferings of this world and of self . Along with the sufferings of the mind body the material world, the ordinary mind .

Only when you have realized self can one identifying with the misery of the mind body experience . Even one that is emotionally happy is suffering .

My connection with the rabbit and my own sufferings link in with the mind body experience and the restrictions and the mind sets that go hand in hand with the material world and such likes .. . I went through a period of time when I felt the sufferings of the world and I could not distinguish at a point whom or what or where the sufferings came from .

Some say enlightenment is likened to taking a happy pill and everything is fluffy and light .. this is not the case .. One can become more aware of the misery and the sufferings that exists in this world, but at this stage one has (normally) detached from the energies and in turn become non judgemental also .

My journey is still on going because I am still consciously present within a mind body . I still feel pain just like the rest of mankind, but my understandings and my awareness through realizations had allows a perception to be had in relation to that .

The kundalini metamorphosis and the transformations occur whilst one is aware of the interconnection of self and the mind body, not only from this lifetime but through our entire existence . Believe me there is much to do energetically speaking to be pure of heart and spirit and in return be of the realization of self 24/7 .

The realization of self never leaves the conscious awareness of self that is of the mind body experience . My realizations were not mind body related . Existing as self in a mind body environment where there are mental and emotional fields of influence can be a constant struggle to coexist with until one has transcended them completely ..

I hope that explains where I am coming from W.S

Hi there... just thought I might add something if that's ok..:)

Dolphins don't naturally swim in swimming pools, they are wild. Maybe there is a something to do with confinement, being restricted and contained?
You could have been the dolphin, if you imagined you were the dolphin what would you be saying?

Happy dreaming 🙂

Hi Cate .

I appreciate your thoughts . 🙂

I had thought along similar lines especially as I had the rabbit dream also that contained restrictions via the cage in relation to the size of the rabbit .

I feel that there were many symbols within the dream and I would say there is something in the playfulness of the swimming pool (be it the water aspect connected with emotions) ... perhaps if I had encountered the dolphin in the middle of the ocean alone there might not of been the same essence had that entertained the flavour of the funness that was of community holiday spirit? who knows for sure lol .

The dolphin didn't show any signs of restriction through sufferings or such likes, it was as if the dolphin was a messenger, and used the medium of the swimming pool to deliver such a message .. (which is still unknown to me) perhaps if I ask the question later on in meditation something my come from such a question .

You could have been the dolphin, if you imagined you were the dolphin what would you be saying?

Happy dreaming 🙂

Cate

:005: :011: Where do you find one of those? I had problems with translation while snorkling on the coral reefs a few years back and I was curious to know what they were saying 😉 - they were very noisy! Probably something like "Not another of those smelly humans! What are they doing in our sea? They look really silly with that thing stuck in their mouth and the big eye cover. What do you think they want? They aren't very good at swimming either"

Sorry - don't mean to hijack the discussion! Lots to think about there - I've found it interesting reading. Love dolphins.

Well, the BabeFish Animal Translator (Beta v1.1b2) has only recently been released. I ran daz's:

EEeee EEee EEee ..

through the translator, and the results are quite startling....

EEeee EEee EEee

translates to:

The Simpson's had it right, doh!

....actually, of course, I'm joking. I would imagine that Dolphins were saying pretty much the same as you're suggesting, Caroline.

But, on a more serious note, before writing this post I came across "Google Translate For Animals". Apparently Google "have targeted our efforts on removing language barriers between the species"

Hmn....I'm not exactly sure what to say about that ~ and, if I did it would definitely be Off Topic:D;)

I know it wasn't what you had in mind, Caroline:). I was making a joke about daz's dolphin impersonation. Daz is a Simpsons viewer, I'm assuming, unless he has spontaneously come to use the word "doh" in the same manner as Homer Simpson.... as he sometimes does...

.....I don't think you're missing much with Google Translate For Animals. I know my cat communicates quite clearly and persistently, without her meows (varying in tone and volume) being transcribed through an android app. Her message always seems clear enough to me............. unless something is being lost in translation:D;)

No criticism intended - at all!! 🙂

I feel that if people have problems communicating with their pets they shouldn't keep them!

Dolphins are a different matter unless one has made a study of them - they seem to keep up a running commentary in their groups. Dr Horace Dobbs has been studying them all his life and gives an amazing lecture on them.

Dream dolphins? The take on that has to be from how you interpret various markers - the what? why? when? how? where? and who? questions may help you with your answers. 😀

I looked on the website Dr Horace Dobbs caroline and it mentions ...

Cost
Dolphin therapy is expensive and it is important not too expect dramatic results.

Wow I wonder how much dolphins charge by the hour nowadays 😀 .

Still they have their rent to pay and their pension plans etc, etc, 😀 .
