Good Astrology books

Hi,
Can anyone recommend a good place to start.....I was thinking of signing up for a corespondence course i found on the net (based in uk)

I wonder what angle of astrology interests you the most?

I cannot give inside advice about correspondence courses as I attended live classes in esoteric astrology and some in psychological astrology.

The Mayo School has been around a long time...I wonder if anyone has any dealings with their correspondence school?

Their courses are not cheap though

Tigress, i am interested in how the position of the planets, moon etc affects our moods and decision making and personality traits etc. I pick up snipits from the psychic tv show and often when the astrologers mention aspects that are going on that affect our personalities I can really identify with and also the tone of my readings seem to echo this. I am logged on doing tarot readings at the mo, and many are feeling very restricted to do with their decision making at the moment, and if it was to do with a certain element going on in astrology i would like to be able to mention this to them to let them know there is a genuine reason etc...

But i imagine i have to learn everything from scratch to gain this insight???

The course i found was £50 for first module and then 20 for each module after for up to 12 more? Its called Mandragora Complementary Studies (I am not sure if I am allowed to mention this?) How much is other course, in the thousands??

Further to my post above ... yes, Jess, it's fine to mention courses in which you have an interest or want information. It's only courses actually being promoted or run by members that are not allowed on the discussion forums, since those have their own section - internal links to Courses and others are at the top of any page of HP.

If you can provide links to the websites of schools or courses you are considering, so others can view them, that's all to the good.

Hi,

I bought a book on Moon astrology and with the help of the net and this book I am doing lots of work into this area at the moment, I am learning as I go and theres so much info on net its amazing, i may leave the course for a while longer and see what I can learn myself..........has anyone else begun in this way?

I think this is a great idea, and as well as reading the books, how about paying attention to when the moon is new and when it is full and noticing how you feel at these times

I am always amazed when people do not notice that the moon is full, I love to gaze at it in the sky and also find the full moon energy in certain signs can be very powerful

My moon is in aries, what sign is your moon in?

One of the first places I started out on was evening classes - some areas may still be running them, but am not up to date on that one. I also did the correspondence course with the Mayo School many moons ago, when it wasn't very expensive.

I think it is probably good to do some research yourself and approach and talk to people and see which one you connect with.

I did them a long time ago, with Douglas Baker in Potters Bar, and then went on to teach it.

His work was a distillation of the Alice Bailey material..making it a lot more accessible.
It also included working with the Rays.
I liked it as there is a technique to extract the soul's purpose aspect, and it works a lot with myths and symbols, which is right up my street.

for example, I was out with a group of people on Saturday, and one of them is alos an astologer, he was talking about his satrunr in Pisces in the 4th house, when we came to a pond with fish a some sculptures I perceived it as a great symbol for what we had been dicsussing

saturn ( stone figures ) in pisces (all the fish) in the 4th house (water/home of the fish)

This symbolic way of translating placements extends and expands on the text book meanings, and adds an extra dimension of meaning

So are you intersted in esoteric astrology too

I've done a few seminars with Alan Oken when he came to the UK, who works from the books of Alice Bailey, and have been to some lectures by Elena Dramcini who is a very good esoteric astrologer. Would like to look more into this area and study it further. I've got quite a vast book collection including most of the works of AB, but as you say it is quite inaccessible.

I'd quite like to get back into all of this as it was approx. 20 years since I went to the lectures.

glad to be back after a hectic summer ,so as i also have some knowledge on esoteric astrology i would love to join you in the discussions.
as u know i teach this subject and i find they add to my tatot readins as well as give timings,so maybe i can answer some of the questions.how is everone getting with Saturn now in Virgo.
out of interest ,i have noticed as least 20 odd couples of Leo with Libra seperating over the past year.any ideas.

my moon is in Gemini,hoever did you realize the the moon moves forward or backwards according to the time of your birth.
the books are amazing and inlightening,i love diving into my books as we cannot hold onto the vast amount of information they can teach us,however,casting a chart can give correct positions of all the planets at the time of your birth.

Whilst browsing the web I noticed on the site for the Seven Ray Institute that Michael Robbins is writing a new book on esoteric astrology, which I promise to buy myself when it emerges - so I will start saving some more money - I already have some book tokens - I am anticipating this is going to be a weighty tome and quite expensive.

Have to go now going to a lecture by Melanie Rheinhart on Pluto as it is getting nearer to ending its long journey through Sagittarius and will enter Capricorn for another long run. Any thoughts on the transformative power of Pluto in Sag - and thoughts about its demotion from planet to planetoid (whatever that is).
