How many of you did bikram yoga? Thought of sharing some benefits of bikram yoga.
It results in weight loss,
It increase flexibility,
It increase energy,
It improves muscle tone,
It lowers blood pressure,
It improves concentration,
It prevents you from disease,
It reduces stress,
It stimulates the immune system,
It stimulates the thyroid gland, pituitary gland and digestive system,
It reorganize the lipids or fat in the muscles.
Hi Adley and welcome to HP, thank you for posting that information I have to admit I have been wondering what is so good about it that they charge £900 a year for membership, I popped into the one in Manchester city centre when it first opened and they told me they do it a room heated to over 100 degrees so I figured the daft annual charge was to cover the electric bill.

Much of the list that Adley provided could be said about a lot of therapies. I have been to Yoga classes in Thailand and Bali so can see the benefit of practising in a hot environment. I have spoken to people to how have said good things about BY. But just to look at the topic in another way, it isn't necessary in have such a hot environ to exercise in. Yoga and similar exercises in the colder climates of countries like Tibet and China are by their nature yang and firey, when necessary, producing more heat internally. Saves fuel and energy as well.

Practising yoga generates its own heat, your body your heat. Bikram classes are artificially heated to a temperature most of us would not normally experience while doing yoga, unless living in a very hot (and natural climate maybe). You’re practically standing on top of the person next to you and there tended to be an odour in the air at the studio I went to. The teacher even said to the class once “if you want the spiritual (aspect), you won’t get it here”.
I tried Bikram a while back to I could have and opinion on it. Not for me, too much sweat belonging to other people! The only benefit I could really see was to Bigram’s pocket or prehaps it was for the heating bill as bettyboop22 suggested.

Since Yoga is about reconnecting to god-consciousness, if it doesn't have a spiritual mind-body angle to the exercises, how can it be Yoga? Sounds like an exercise instructor jumping on the latest bandwagon. Not that there is anything wrong with Indian gymnastics :rolleyes:
