Hi,
I've been practising yoga at home with DVDs regularly since January (4 times a week), I had done a bit previous to this but not on a regular basis. The two DVDs I have been using are Hatha yoga and I have felt vast improvement in my strength and flexibility but now I would like to continue this improvement as I feel I have plateaued slightly. Also I feel I am getting bored of these sequences and really don't want to loose my motivation.
So I just would like some advice really, any tips on other DVDs I can use to try and advance and shake up my routine?
I would like to continue to improve my strength and flexibility especially in my arms as I have poor upper body strength and would like to work towards some arm balances.
I have also been using yoga to aid in my weight loss routine with good results so would like something to help this continue as well.
Ideally I'd like to find a class to compliment my home practice but have found that the classes in my area that I know of are taking place when I'm at work or are too far away. (Wigan area if anyone knows of any good classes?)
I'm open to any style of yoga not just Hatha and I have a background in dance (ballet) but haven't done any for a good number of years hence the loss of strength and flexibility and weight gain.
Thanks
advancing home practice
Hi RaeRae
If you go on line you are sure to find some yoga teachers in your area and if their classes are at awkward times ring them and ask if they will do one or two private sessions or if they know someone who takes unpublicized classes. Yoga teachers sometimes know a lot of other teachers or run additional classes off their schedule. It's worth asking.
They are not always the best places to do yoga but as a last resort do you have access to a leisure centre that runs classes?
DVD's are okay to get you into yoga but the problem with them is that they don't always tell you how to do it safely. Even simple advice on beginner postures like internal and external support can be totally overlooked.
Find an inspiring teacher even if it means traveling to the next town!!
