Hi
I am a new vegetarian at the ripe old age of 44, but giving up meat has been something I have always gone back to wanting to do, so stopped making excuses and got on with it about 2 months ago now.
I would really like to be vegan and wondered how easy the transition would be.
Would love some pointers as to what pitfalls to avoid etc and to hear others experiences of moving to vegan.
Is it very restrictive with regards to eating out etc?

thanks in advance

Karen

Hi

I personally found it very easy moving from vegetarian to vegan. I understand that it may be a bit more difficult if you are used to eating processed food such as quorn and other frozen meals. However, if you eat a relatively healthy diet consisting mostly of fresh fruit and vegatables you should find this easier.

There are many lovely vegan restaurants and absolutely loads of websites with free recipes and ideas, just do a search.

If you would like any more specific advice, let us know.

I went from veggie to vegan at the age of 54 yrs!. Its easy I gotagood vegan cookbook first called The Easy vegan cookbook. saw how good and easy the recipes were and went from there.
Some products froms H&B are vegan so pop into a H&Bshop and buy such things as cheatin ham, cheatin beef and porkless pies. Also their own make sausages are vegan as well.

I do recomment though getting that book, which you can get through animal aid or veganstore.

I use asdas soya milk on cereal and soyadream cream. Redwoods are good and have lots of choice as well.

Hi Karen,

Where do you live? There are loads of vegan friendly cafes/pubs and restaurants in the UK, depending on where you live, you could be in for a real treat! I have enjoyed some of the most delicious food ever since adopting a vegan lifestyle 13 years ago! there are plenty of inspirational recipie books out there too if you are feeling creative yourself... and the shops stock plenty of options these days (much more so than years ago!).

Try the vegan society for advice, local contacts, new products, recipies, other links and the animal free shopper, which lists just about everything vegan that you can find in the supermarket.

I prefer to eat unprocessed food these days, such as fruit and salad, which is in abundance everywhere, making eating out even easier! Even non-veggie restaurants are very accomodating these days (thanks to so many people being intollerant to dairy etc), if you call ahead in advance and explain your requirements you may find that you end up with the most delicious plate on the table.

Abundant Blessings
Trin
