Hi all,
This year is going to be my first vegetarian Christmas. I am looking around for ideas for the main meal. No one in my family is really into nut roast:rolleyes: so I am a bit unsure of alternatives. I will still want to do all the other traditional roast/steamed veg etc., but really would like something special and tasty for the centre piece of the dish.
So do any of you have any ideas, the best I have found so far is a Veggie Haggis with onion sauce. 😮 (I am asking now because I will need to try any suggestions before the big day:))
Thanks guys,
Rachel xXx
I do a nut roast at christmas, but found these two ideas from Jamie Oliver
havent tried them tho..if you do, let us know your verdict
Haven't tried it yet - but several recipes for mushroom strudel with filo pastry are on my list of possibles for this year. I like the sound of this one - wonder if he will come and cook it for me? lol...

Wouldn't insist on him doing the washing up either - am sure there could be more festive after dinner activities than that!
Be well
Celia
Have a look on here
You should get some ideas. I'm hungry now I've looked at all those!
Thanks Tigress, Celia, EarthmotherJ.
I do love looking at recipes and trying new things. As my family will tell you, I can be a bit prone to dreaming up some weird food combinations :o. So some guidance is more than welcome.
Some great ideas thanks,

Does anyone have any veggie xmas recipe ideas that don't involve using an oven? The day before and on xmas day itself our oven is pretty much dedicated to cooking meat. So that leaves me with the hob, the microwave and a health grill. Usually I end up having something like pasta or a curry but I fancy being a bit more xmassy this year. Even if anyone has seen any good looking ready meals anywhere it might be worth checking them out.
could you cook a nut roast on dec 23rd then re-heat in the micro wave on christmas day?
I do a very good mushroom stoganof with exotic mushrooms, brandy, and serve with sprouts chestnuts all the right veg for those who want it and wild rice for those who do not as I have both in my family and 'inlaw' has to have pots done in goose fat!!!!
my recipe allows for it to be cooked couple of days ahead - and it is all done on the top of the cooker vylette!

That chocolate cake looks heavenly lol
Thanks everyone for all your suggestions:). I have settled on this with a brandy sauce for desert. I had compiled a menu of 5 courses, but when it was very subtly pointed out to me, “Oh my God! I can’t eat all that!” I have taken heed and cut out a course.:(
(:033:But that’s OK because we are having a family buffet on New Year’s Day so I can do loadsa dishes then!:022:)
