Hi all,

I have an oval cake tin which is 12" by 10", does anybody know how many portions this can be cut int? I have looked in the books that I have but they dont have any portion charts in.

I have been asked to bake a family friends 80th birthday cake for 80 people and this is the largest tin I have.

Many thanks

For reasonable sized cake portions I would guesstimate it could be cut into 8 pieces based on the dimensions you give.

Why not just cook a sponge in it for yourself and give it a go. 😉

Depends what sort of cake you are making! These are what I would suggest for sizes - I have specialised in decorated cakes in the past.

If you are doing a whisked sponge cake with cream and jam filling, then 10-12 portions; a richer sponge like Victoria sandwich or light fruit cake, 12-16 portions.

If it is a heavy fruit cake, then divided into half inch x 2 inch slices will make approximately 60-80 portions depending how accurate your cutting is!

It is worth having a practice for the quantity of ingredients before doing the main cake - check for cake quantities on other recipes.

Happy eating!
