Hi all
I've been doing regular core work lately in both Pilate and Yoga. I am doing 20-30 mins each morning and I love the way it makes me feel. I can feel my body getting stronger too but lately I have felt a bit sore in a new area. It doesn't hurt and feels like muscles being worked (I think) but it's in a weird place. I've looked it up and the area is called the pubic symphysis, is this a normal place to feel sore when strengthening your core?
I'm not worried but as I said, it's a strange place to feel sore and I wanted to check if this sounded normal to everyone.
In love, light and abundance x x x
I would guess that, when you work the legs, deep abdominal and pelvic floor muscles in yoga and pilates, you are stretching the iliacus, which is a pelvic floor muscle that originates at the ilium, as well as the adductors, which originate on the pubis. The soreness should wear off as your muscles loosen up. Just don't push yourself quite so hard.
The PS has several muscles that attach to it specifically as well as being affected by other pelvic muscles which attach to other parts of the pelvis and are part of your core area. There are methods to release the PS if it is feeling tight or sore. One is to lie on your back with your knees bent, get someone to put their arm in between your knees, so that their elbow is against one and their fist against the other. You then press into their arm for a few seconds. You then repeat this on smaller gaps, so they put their fist in between etc. You may well feel/hear some pops as the muscles release slightly. Ideally you would see a remedial massage therapist who could work on the various muscles and do this release for you.
Hope this helps

It could be inflammation. When you have found something you really enjoy, it is easy to overdo it. Maybe leave the core work for a few days to see if it settles down, then work your way back up slowly. You will use your core muscles anyway with most Pilates and Yoga postures. 🙂
