Just interested to know if any one on here are trained Pilates teachers. I've recently started Pilates and I'm really liking it and contemplating whether to train to become a teacher. How long does it take to train? I've looked at a few sites on training and it seems very expensive (£2000-£3000) - is this about right? Would you say the investment is worth it - do you get enough 1:1 and group clients to make the money back? Can anyone recommend a good training provider?
One of my friends has just completed matwork teacher-training, and it cost her thousands - with more training to come! She has been working for some years with another local teacher, who is now teaching the advanced classes, and my friend is concentrating on beginners - she has 5 classes a week, with a minimum of 10 per class, and is doing very well. If you are newly into the technique, you may need to gain a bit more experience before applying for teacher training. Check with the Pilates Foundation.
I looked into training in Pilates last year. My search was based on the REPS (registry of exercise professionals) website so that I could see which training providers did REPS recognised Level 3 qualifications. Among all the expensive courses (those £2000-£3000 mentioned) I was gobsmacked to find that the West Herts College in Watford did a 2-week full-time mat pilates course for £500!!! It was Level 3 and REPs recognised. I assumed it was so cheap because it was a college and therefore subsidised education. Unfortunately I couldn't attend the course, not least because I'm yet to do any pilates classes myself! 😀
West Herts College link - (when the course is listed it's under the "Courses" tab, "Sport" link and then "Part-time" tab).
I've had a look on their site but currently they are not listing future pilates training but it's worth giving them a call. They run their adult courses during college holidays. Last year's course was during the summer and fully booked (no wonder!) so I'd hope it would be running again this year.
Good luck!
