I am thinking of having some one to one pilates lessons at a studio near where I live, but I am worried that my weight may be a problem.

What do people think? Should it be ok?

Thanks!

Go for it Claire

I am thinking of starting a course in the New Year - if you are having one to one then the tutor/teacher will be able to help you

it has got a lot of positive benefits - helps you feel more energised, improves posture and helps pull the tum in - not to be sniffed at

let me know how you get on

Thank you!

Are you going to have one to one lessons or go to a class?

I am planning to have a couple of one to one sessions so that I get up my confidence to go to a class - I am very self conscious at the moment!

I agree with you, the benefits of pilates sound great!

Maybe we should be online pilates buddies and spur each other on to carry on practising?!

sorry - just had to put the potatoes on

There is a lady who runs classes at the sports centre which I am thinking of doing

where abouts are you? I would be happy to be your pilates buddy, have you looked at the pilates forum?

I do Pilates, in a class of 6 women, and I am 15 stones. It has helped tremendously with stress incontinence! My instructor knows when I am really 'pulling up' as apparently my eyebrows lift as well!!!!

I have nothing to add about the pilates, I understand that it is great exercise for all levels of fitness and am looking forward to starting in the new year, but I had to say how much this made me laugh Jabba! Will now look in the mirror the next time I do my pelvic floor exercises!

Hello Claire - I'm a Pilates teacher, I'm no Twiggy, and I have several larger people in my classes - no problems!
Just don't think it will do much calorie burning for you - you should do some aerobic work to help you shift the extra pounds.

Hi Claire 🙂

I started doing pilates about 8 weeks ago, but I excercise in a group.
Pilates is suitable for anyone, regardless of size, weight, disabillity or age.
In the group I go to, there are large women, as well as slim women.

You will find that with pilates, it doesn't really matter about your weight, it is mainly to help strengthen muscles, and improve balance and posture.

Helps me with my stress levels a lot!
Good relaxation.
