Brand New To Pilates

Hi everyone,

I would like some advise from all of you can you tell me what pilates is like I have one Yoga and liked it but it was a few years ago, I have booked in to do a class next week and I'm just abit nervous as to what I've let myself in for.

It's a bit like Yoga in that it's a mat-based exercise programme. Hopefully you will be in a class full of beginners. There will be quite a lot to concentrate on, and it's harder mentally than physically for the first session or so - a bit like learning to drive - breathing, good alignment, pelvic floor - and moving! But it's well worth the effort and your should feel taller, stretched and stronger at the end of the session. You should have plenty of hands on correction from your teacher.

for me, pilates was like exercising from the inside. i didn't find it mentally tiring at all, in fact, after my first session i felt totally relaxed and actually wondered if i'd done anything at all. it was only the next day that i had realised i'd been using muscles! i did 2 6 weeks courses and only stopped cos the guy went to a private health place instead. i hope you have as good an instructor as i did.
