Ten Rules for Being Human

by Cherie Carter-Scott

1. You will receive a body. You may like it or hate it, but it’s yours to keep for the entire period.
2. You will learn lessons. You are enrolled in a full-time informal school called, “life.”
3. There are no mistakes, only lessons. Growth is a process of trial, error, and experimentation. The “failed” experiments are as much a part of the process as the experiments that ultimately “work.”
4. Lessons are repeated until they are learned. A lesson will be presented to you in various forms until you have learned it. When you have learned it, you can go on to the next lesson.
5. Learning lessons does not end. There’s no part of life that doesn’t contain its lessons. If you’re alive, that means there are still lessons to be learned.
6. “There” is no better a place than “here.” When your “there” has become a “here”, you will simply obtain another “there” that will again look better than “here.”
7. Other people are merely mirrors of you. You cannot love or hate something about another person unless it reflects to you something you love or hate about yourself.
8. What you make of your life is up to you. You have all the tools and resources you need. What you do with them is up to you. The choice is yours.
9. Your answers lie within you. The answers to life’s questions lie within you. All you need to do is look, listen, and trust.
10. You will forget all this.

A site revisited

For various reasons - I ended up back on the Fountain International site again today
and thought I would share with HP'ers an item I always read when on there which makes me stop and think awhile...

Rules of Being Human by Dan Millman

When you were born, you didn't come with an owner's manual. These guidelines help make life work better!

You will receive a body. You may like it or hate it, but make the best of it because it’s going to be with you for the rest of your life.

You will learn lessons. You are enrolled in a full time informal school called life on planet Earth. Every person or incident is the Universal Teacher

There are no mistakes, only lessons. Growth is a process of experimentation. ‘Failures’ are as much a part of the process as ‘Successes’

A lesson is repeated until it is learned. It is presented to you in various forms until you learn it, then you go to the next lesson.

If you don’t learn easy lessons they get harder. External problems are a precise reflection of your internal state; pain is how your subconscious gets your attention. First it whispers, then it Yells. When you clear inner obstructions, your outside world changes.

You will know you have learned a lesson when your actions change. Wisdom is practice, practice, practice, practice. Remember a little of Something is better than a lot of Nothing.

THERE’ is no better than ‘HERE’. When your ‘THERE’ becomes ‘HERE’, you simply obtain another ‘THERE’ that looks better than ‘HERE’
Others are only mirrors of you. You cannot love or hate something about another unless it reflects something you love or hate in yourself.

Your life is up to you. Spirit provides the canvas you do the painting. There are three kinds of people; those who make things happen, those who watch what happens, and those who wonder what happened. Take charge of your life - or someone else will.

You always get what you want. Your subconscious rightfully determines what energies, experiences and people you attract, therefore only the foolproof way to know what you want is to see what you have.

There is no right or wrong, but there are consequences and responsibilities. Corollary Law: no one gets away with anything; everything has a value – and a price; you pay now, or you pay later.

Your answers lie inside you. Children need guidance from others; as we mature, we trust our hearts, where the laws of spirit are written. You must know more than you have heard or read or been told. All you need to do this is look, listen and trust.

You will tend to forget all this. That’s why it’s good to remind one another.

Aw Celia, this is soooo great. Every word resonates. I'm going to copy this and keep it. You know Dan Millman's 'The way of the peaceful warrior' was one of the very first 'spiritual books' I ever read. (It was one of those books that kind of fell into my hands off the shelf in a bookshop.) I heard later that he had cashed in on his status and was making loads of money but I never cared about that particularly as all he had cost me was the price of one book - which I still have. (There's a thought, maybe I should read it again.) Anyway thanks for posting this - and reminding me yet again of all the stuff I need to be reminded of.

Celia thanks for sharing that with us.

I heard later that he had cashed in on his status and was making loads of money but I never cared

Glad you don't care.
But it points at our society's gunky attitude towards money. Especially spiritual people being rich, doubt creeps in... Truth is as the spirit expands, vibration soars. deeply held prejudices, beliefs, conditioning and stuff and nonsense melt away, one becomes open and receptive to the infinite abundance.
Since Osho, a large number of spiritual people have embraced the 'Zorba the Buddha' way to enlightenment and expanded living. It is hard to imagine an enlightened one struggling to pay their bills!

Hi Jnani
I have to admit that I struggle just a bit with the concept of true masters making money from their teachings (I have posted about this in the past.) It disturbed me a year or so ago that Eckhart Tolle was charging a lot of money for his talks (£75 if I remember rightly) and I started a thread about it. But as I am learning to let go of thoughts like this so it becomes easier to simply accept. Stuff about money is one of the issues that I have been working on for a while....
(Sorry, Celia, to hijack the thread!)

I have never heard of Dan Millman, but now I have I think I might hunt his books out....I loved reading this Celia. Thanks. It got may yep's from me as I read through it...

as for the money thing. My philosophy is, as long as you harm neither yourself or another in order to get it....
then it's an energy worthy of attraction and ours for the taking 😉

How interesting - I posted this from the Fountain website - but there its attributed to someone completely different.

I don't always look at the daily thought - perhaps I should be more diligent before posting - sorry Celtia to duplicate - wonder who it was from originally?

Thank you Celia (& previously Celtia). Loved it, particularly number 10, as I know I forget, because I'm human, and I get all caught up in that many times a day!

Am pondering on which lessons seem to have been getting harder (useful information in there somewhere )

Thanks again for sharing

Lessons are repeated until they are learned. A lesson will be presented to you in various forms until you have learned it. When you have learned it, you can go on to the next lesson.

I love this one! Too often, I think we tend to forget about the lessons in experience. I know I will sometimes complain about a situation rather than asking myself what I could learn from it. But the best way to move on is to learn. And it also makes you look upon nearly everything as being positive.
