..and we can spend our life trying to work it out and maybe never get the answer(s) to satisfy us.
Perhaps we have all the answers already, we just can't see the wood for the trees.

I think its good to think and I even think its good to think too much sometimes but I also think it beneficial to ones sanity to fill your time with so many activities (work, sport, culture, freinds & family) that by the time you get a moment to sit down and "think too much" you really really enjoy it!:)

Hi Apfelowl,

I believe it depends on what you mean by "think". I like to differentiate between general thoughts and reasoned thinking...

With reasoned thinking we know what the goal is we are trying to reach and we are using reasoning to determine the best way to get from where we are to that goal. This is productive and necessary to allow us to progress in life.

With general thoughts, we are pretty much daydreaming, following one thought to another without any particular goal in mind. What does this achieve for us? .... nothing much, except to waste our time that could be more productively spent focused on the present moment.

Excercises in stilling the mind allow us to become more aware of the present moment and stay in that moment and use the power of our mind to achieve the goals we need to rather than it being 'away with the fairies' as they say. 😉

I suppose you could always focus on how you are feeling.

A wonderful hypnotherapist Dr Stephen Gilligan says "Thinking is like constipation..." 😉

I "think" what i was trying to say was that thinking - deep thoughts and general thoughts are good but they can be overdone. If you spend too much time thinking about "the meaning of life", youare sure to feel a little nuts, and if you spend all day long asking youself "how do I feel today/now/about this/" you can become self-centred and miserable!

I guess human contact for me is essential - if i am going to embark upon deep conversations, i like to do so with others, over a coffee or a glass of wine!

if we think too much on what life should be, we forget to get on living it

Yes i think thats just what i wanted to say - although my version was quite long-winded.
