Hi Angelrose
Although most people instantly attribute colours to different chakras and attach some meaning or the other to seeing colours...they really mean nothing.
We see colors with open eyes but when we see them with closed eyes, suddenly mind has a great urge to know the significance of them !

Been there myself. Seeing colours, sparkles, shining brigh tlight, vortex of light or what have you... It is wise to dismiss them all as phenomenmnon- as just scenery along the way. If thoughts go quiet, Mind starts expressing itself as colours, lights, movement, shaking, shivering, sensations, hot and cold, etc etc.

The only purpose of meditation is to settle the mind to that extent so that what is beyond mind gets a chance to reveal itself.
But mind wants to know how is the progress going, what is the significance, how far have I come, good news, mile stones what else to look forward to and blah blah blah

Whatever happens during meditation, leave it be. Just mind sneaking in from back door.

I agree with Jnani, actually, but they can be a great source of encouragement to the beginner, and several systems ask the meditator to concentrate on the lights, for instance, at certain stages of development.

I will just mention that the colours you see may well depend on the system of spiritual development you are working. It is a curious fact that the visions and experiences you will get when meditating to a system of development will fit in with that system: a good reason for sticking to just one system! It is as if the higher levels want to help us in our endeavours. But eventually you can become attached to having such things, and these attachments will block your progress.

The absolute expert on receiving colours as far as the Western Kabbalah is concerned was the now-badly-thought-of-with-some-good-reasons Alastair Crowley. He actually delegated meditations on the various stages of the tree of life to elucidate the colours seen, and double checked them. He had lodges all over the world meditating and filling out questionnaires, which he would collate. Interestingly he himself didn't see the same colours as others, and finally worked out that it was because of the many drugs he had done. (See his book "Diary of a Drug Fiend" although the title says it all).

So meditators using that system of meditation knew exactly which stage they had reached in meditation, which seems to have been useful in knowing when to move on.

I know of one lodge leader who vets new members by checking their colour perceptions in guided meditation, so as to exclude those who have ruined their body's perceptions through drug use.

How awful! So not only has the poor applicant possibly successfully struggled to give up a habit which may have cost him dear, but he's then told that he's damaged his perceptions too much to be allowed to meditate with this particular group!

Well, this type of meditation is unsuitable for those who have damaged their perceptions with drugs.

And no white occult school worth anything will accept a member for training who is using drugs, of course.

has i only go with the flow on my path...
im not sure what it all means....
i have tried 2 different circles......not very friendly so didnt stay..

Thanks for that!

Going with the flow is what it's all about, but what that means is subject, too often, to the ego's interpretations. My ego, for instance, considers itself an expert on all of this, a sure sign that it isn't.

Have a look at this: for more information.

When all said and done, it is what happens between meditations that's important, and a more certain guide to the progress being made.

Such lights and patterns are just entoptic phenomena. They can be produced with eyes closed or open, in dark or light. All perfectly normal and not remotely mysterious.

An interesting observation, Can we discuss this principle further on another thread? -.
