Hi there,

Does anyone know of any meditation groups in the Co. Durham area?

I found that there is one group who meets on a Wednesday in Durham that I am thinking of trying, does anyone go and what is it like?

I can't do Tuesday's, but any other weekday is a possibility.

Blessings

Meditation

There is an excellent group in Durham Library on Saturdays in the meeting room upstairs.
They are first class, unlike the flaky NK Buddhist group which meets on a different day.
The quality of results is amazing.

Sounds like they only teach meditation though and not the further aspects of compassion and respect for others like the "flaky" NK Buddhists.

In future please remember the Healthypages guidelines:

Meditation & Meditative Activities in Durham

It is worth checking the programme of events at St Antony's Priory from time to time, as they have excellent days dedicated to meditation and meditative practises. I've enjoyed fantastic full-day workshops on Mindfulness and Meditation & the Body, and am looking forward to attending a number of events this autumn.

It's a lovely venue, and from my experiences so far the teachers are great.

Hope you find something of interest for you here:

Samatha Meditation in Durham and Sunderland

Another couple of options...

There are very enjoyable classes in Durham and Sunderland focusing upon Buddhist Samatha meditation, based upon Mindfulness of Breathing. The teacher (Prof. Peter Harvey) has been running these classes for over 20 years and has a wealth of knowledge to share. It's worth noting that the Sunderland class is about to return to the University when things start up again in the autumn.

Also, the Vivekarama Centre in Sunderland has meditation and discussion sessions most weeks but check for current times.

Hope this is of interest!

Thank you Chakra Chick.

I will look at these 🙂

I'd forgotten about this, but then I've been fulfilling my need to meditate during my Reiki training.

You're very welcome Meadowsweet, I hope the info is helpful.

Yes, Reiki can fulfil many of our meditation needs beautifully can't it? I finished my Reiki Master Teacher programme earlier this year, and found it to be wonderfully rewarding meditatively. Wishing you every joy and success with it.

I completed mine at the beginning of the year too and I am taking my first class this next month. scared and excited at the same time. I never thought I'd be approached so soon but obvious spirit has different timescales to my own. 🙂

That is fantastic news Meadowsweet!

You know the saying 'When the student is ready, the teacher will appear...'? Well, just as true is 'When the teacher is ready, the students will appear...!'

Enjoy the experience, I'm sure you will be more than ready. Sending you Reiki as you prepare.

Best wishes,

OK my lovelies...I've gone an attained a diploma as a Meditation Instructor. I'm setting up a Meditation group for the 2nd Sunday of the month from September until the end of the year.

First meeting will be the 14th September 2014, please PM me for further details if you are interested in attending. I will probably limit it to 10 people to begin with. Who knows it could lead on to various meditation group meetings across Co. Durham and even Cumbria (as I live on the Cumbrian border.

My idea is to start with some breathing techniques, relaxation techniques followed by a couple of guided meditations. I want to tailor it to suit those who have never meditated before through to those with a little more experience, during the course of the gatherings I will mix in some more complex meditation methods but will go at the pace of the group. Basically get everyone to try different methods and see what happens.
