Hi Ihave just returned to meditation and after this mornings medi, I felt tired and spaced out all day. Any helpful advice would be gratefully accepted. Treepoet.
Hi Treepoet (and welcome to Healthypages 🙂 )
What sort of meditation did you practice and for how long? What position were you sitting or lying in?
There can be many reasons why you felt tired afterwards, and that could easily relate to the method of practice, but could also relate to how tired you are anyway, especially if you meditated soon after waking. Also bear in mind that every meditation session can vary and some can be more unsettled and tiring whilst others can be invigorating and enlightening. You only really need concern yourself about it if it persists with each meditation session.

Hello treepoet - welcome to HP. It is encouraging that you are returning to meditation. My main questions are how long was the break from meditation, and how practiced were you?
My experience when I resume meditation practice after a lengthy break is that it is hard to settle. I find the first few weeks quite challenging because I know what I was able to do the last time I was practicing regularly... and I almost expect to continue on from where I left off. Instead I develop all sorts of aches, irritability, impatience, ringing in the ears (not all at the same time)... which seem to have the sole purpose of making me abandon the sitting, or meditation altogether.
Therefore my advice to you would be to ignore these distractions, cos there will be many more until your mind settles, and just persist with the reintroduction of your meditation practice.

p.s. I am assuming that you are doing a traditional meditation practice (i.e. seated posture and natural breathing) and you are not adopting an asanic position or pranayamic breathing. If so, then it would make sense to assume a more traditional meditation posture and breathing, and gradually work back up to the more challenging sitting/breathing you previously achieved.
