Hi all, wonder if anyone can help me?

Even though I've meditated for since I was 17, I've not read any books and had guidance, I've just gone with the flow.

3 days ago I started to hum while meditating and self healing, and within seconds it seemed like my 3rd eye opened and I saw bright colours whiz and dance like a kaleidoscope.

I tried it again today and it happened quicker and stronger.

I don't really know what I'm doing, and don't know where to start looking for information.

Does anyone know what it could be and point me in the right direction?

Thanks,

Hip

Humming is a great way to meditate. All the experiences that come along with any meditation are just experiences...no matter how amazing or significant they may seem. Let them come and go as thay please. You are the One to who these expeiences come.
All Meditation is just preparation for you to be able to go beyond effort. Because You are the One you are looking for.
The greatest meditation 'technique' is to Follow your sense of being. The sense of your presence. All meditation is to get to the core of that presence.

years ago I started out with active meditations by Osho, They are fun, joyous and compatible with modern living because mind is tricked into silence by all the activity around the meditation and silence gets a chance to sneak in from the back door!
Hope you will find the right one for you soon

Maybe your 'path' is expanding and was ready to do so? Like Jnani says, go with the flow! and enjoy 🙂

I have been on a few meditation retreats and the last one used chanting and humming as a meants of opening the Chakras. I am not an expert but maybe the humming opened your third eye chakra. One of the excercises we done was to chant OoooUuuMmmmm. This can be felt moving right through your body.

I found the book Moon over the Water very useful.

However if you are getting such profound experiences you are certainly doing something well.
I am still trying to get into a rotine sometimes I am very good and sometimes it gets put on the back burner:(

Will keep trying though.

humming and sound

Sound has a very beneficial effect on the spiritual and physical body, certain tones resonate with your third eye. A scientist named
Fabien Maman took pictures of cancer cells they were taken while a xylophone was used over a period of fourteen minutes playing the Ionian Scale (nine musical notes C-D-E-F-G-A-B- and C and D from the next octave
the cells began to break up. I found this out in my own studies on sound for PTM
I use tuning forks that resonate to each chakra
you can copy the correct note with your voice
there are even more studies that say your own voice holds more power. so keep up with the humming 🙂

Thank you all for such positive, insightful and encouraging posts.
Noram, that research is very interesting, before I started the meditation I was worried I had a chest infection pending. I forgot about my concerns as the tightness has gone.

Its amazing where your intuition takes you if you follow it.
