When I meditate and especially when I am doing a guided meditation, I seem to just 'see' black. When I try and imagine the waterfall for example, I can just think of what one would look like, but can't seem to actually visualise it.
Would anyone have any guidance for me, as I would really like to visualise and meet my spirit guides and actually 'see' them, and I feel unable to do this.
I can 'feel' their presence, but I would love to actually meet them and see them in my meditation.
Thank you in advance for your help!!

You could ask them to pave the way, as you would like to see them and see what they come up with.
Or imagine you will meet them at a picnic table and see if they await you.. something like that.
Or, create a wisdom room within a "library", they might like to wait for you there. 🙂
I think some people find it easier to visualise than others. I'm like you, Dipti, I can sort of imagine things in my head but find it difficult to actually visualise and see every detail. I believe this is something that gets easier with practice.

To visualise a waterfall, you have to think of a tear running down your face.
The birth of a tear as it finds it's way, the two or even three.
A rain drop on the forehead flowing down to join the tears, feel each drop. They mingle, warm tear, cold rain.... each find its path.
The rain becomes a shower, you look up and feel the refreshing rain wash your face, now cooler, but a relief from the warmth of the sun. The water now running, you need to close your eyes, feel the drips forming on your chin, lick your lips, feel te water catch it on your tongue.
The shower is stronger you open your eyes, see the the sun shine through the shower, hear the sound. Experience with all your senses and open to the realisation of the waterfall.
It works for me,

I used to think I wasn't able to visualise as I could never get clear images in my mind, but whilst it is true that people vary widely in this ability, it can be practised and improved over time. I stopped worrying about not getting sharp technicolor images that I assumed other people were able to conjure up, and whatever vague or fuzzy pictures that I get do fine for me - they really don't have to be perfect.
It may help to add some other senses to your visualisation - sounds, physical sensations, smells - if you have a preference for auditory or kinaesthetic processing, incorporating this into your picture will help to make it more vivid and realistic.

I used to think I wasn't able to visualise as I could never get clear images in my mind,
Me too. Then one day many years ago I was granted a vision which showed me just what was possible, just like watching a film in the cinema (or an advert, actually, it was brief! Quite a while before I knew what it meant, though.
The fact is, Dip, that I didn't really LOOK around me when I was awake and living, so that part of my consciousness was never so developed. I was, and am, into ideas and feelings.
So when I "visualise" its still mainly a "kinethetise" if that is a real word!
For many years now I've studied the Kaballah, and thus found the guided meditations (Pathworkings) a challenge. Indeed, initially I decided that I would do them with my imaginary eyes closed, and that was extraordinarily effective. The next stage was to do them in a wide open space so I could actually walk about. It helps if you live in the country. I soon found that walking on the spot works just as well. The master of the lodge prescribed lots of "Kim's games" which helped a great deal. You can do Kim's game with scenery, too. Invaluable.
Eventually I did NLP with it's concepts of the personality consisting of "parts" each of which want something positive for you, but which tend to be in conflict. I decided to call up the "part" which was stopping me from visualising, and ask it what it's positive intention was for me. The answer/feeling/thought came back "to protect me and keep me safe." I thanked it and asked it if it would show itself to me in some way, and I got a clear picture of a pink dragon - totally unexpected, but it didn't take much meditation on that, and dialogue with the pink dragon, before it was sufficiently reassured to allow the images through. I still had to develop my ability to "see" and "remember" the images, though.
When I'm working, I rarely rely on images. My intuitions come as felt senses still, and I have so much experience in working with that I can interpret them quite quickly. I would have much more problem with images, actually!
Hope this helps!
Hi All,
Thank you so much for all your thoughts, advice and suggestions. I am going to attempt to stop worrying about it, and keep doing what I am doing, and just "be"... sometimes that's easier said than done isn't it!! 🙂

Hi Dip
Just came across this thread of yours, contrasting it to the one in the readings section and... wow! You've come such a long way in a short time! x
