Hi there
I've just looked at a few other threads and some of them echoed my feelings/situation. Sorry bit long!
I feel really bored, unfulfilled, depressed, lazy, can't be bothered, tired, want to do something for my future but don't know what, procrastinate (drives me mad!), feel trapped etc. No longer have any idea of what ticks my boat. Never seem to get excited about anything and have any enthusiasm (if I do I soon loose it!).
I've been a house/wife mother since my kids were born 15 years ago and now they are teens I find myself constantly looking at courses to see what i might be interested in. Trouble is I look, research and then loose interest, get nowhere.
Before the kids were born I did work for a large computer company and had various jobs there. There was one particular job (over 23 years ago now!) that I loved. Trouble is that scenario wouldn't be around now, plus I've been out of that sort of work for so long - so that's no good.
I did do various beauty courses about 5 years ago and did practice for a while, but due to moving and stuff had to stop. There were various parts I enjoyed but found it difficult comitting to certain times/days because of kids, horses and husband!
I have had horses for 36 years and did try and train to become a riding instructor about 7 years ago, but got constantly moaned at being told I was obsessed or because I wasn't there to look after the kids. Got depressed and gave up!
Now I'm going stir crazy. I want to do something which I can be good at, earn good money and be independent again. My kids will leave school in a couple of years. Trouble is how do I know what I'd enjoy and be interested in? Any suggestions

Hi Deb,
the way you feel is quite common actually, so don't worry or feel guilty and depressed about it (it just makes it worse ;)). However, there is no miracle cure and you will just have to explore options and opportunities; hopefully at one point you will come across something you will feel passionate about.
I happened to notice a personality test on iVillage, which perhaps may help you find the right vocation for yourself:
At least it may offer you some additional thoughts and ideas.
Best of luck!

Hello
You could try this online test to find out what areas of work etc may interest you. It is actually on the university admissions website so is kind of orientated towards choosing subjects for courses, but it gives a breakdown of areas of work that would suit your skills, interests etc and then you could research them further if you like the sound of any of them
The address is:
I have done it myself and it is quite good.
The learn direct website is also good for looking up job profiles, getting careers advice etc. You can phone them or email them for help with choosing courses, getting a job etc.
Anothe idea for you is how about doing some voluntary work to get yourself some recent work experience to go on your CV and also to boost your confidence. There are lots of areas you can do voluntary work - how about contacting your local riding school and ask if they need a volunteer - maybe you could help with giving disabled children riding lessons or something? They may also then offer you training which you would otherwise have to pay for, so could be a good route into doing something you love.
The volunteering website might be helpful.

Thanks, I'll check out those sites.
Cheers

I would support others' suggestions about volunteering - great way to check out what you might enjoy/find fulfilling and to get work experience.
Your experience with horses reminded me of the existence of Equine Assisted Psychotherapy - it is a relatively new field, and I think would require a lot of specialised training - but maybe something you would consider for the future if you wanted to pursue something in the therapeutic arena! 🙂

Hi Deb
Here is something you could try:-
If money was no object and you had no need to work at all, what what you like to do?
The answer to that might give you an idea of what you would enjoy.
Once you know that you can think of ways you could make money from doing it.
All the Best

Hi!
I also agree with maybe going down the volunteering route. I've worked in a charity shop for the last 19 months now and LOVE it!! I'd be lost without the couple of hours a day I spend there 🙂
Hi Deb
It's difficult to suggest things without feeling I am just papering over the cracks. No amount of doing can counteract your state of being and I am sensing that you are in a state of frustration and demotivation.
Suggesting activities you can try for me ignore the underlying issues. I noticed you seem to have issues around committing and seeing things through to the end. Underlying issues like this would need to be dealt with or else you will keep recreating similar patterns.
I specialise in helping people find and live their life's purpose. I find many clients come to me after getting tired of dealing with the surface levels of their issues and want to resolve it once and for all.
2 things you could benefit from right away are:
1. Exploring how you feel right here, right now. Many times when we are down, we are not allowing ourselves to be with those down emotions for fear of never resurfacing again. They are actually just emotions, they are communicating something to you. In your case, they may be a catalyst for change, maybe they're telling you to make a firm decision to do something about this once and for all.
2. Discover your values and what's important to you. A simple exercise is to think back to a time you were truly happy. What is it about that time that made you happy? It could be things like freedom, joy etc but it could also be things like "the wind blowing through your hair". This is personal and not about how you are feeling right now. Some of these values may not be present in you life right now. And I'm guessing quite a few of them aren't which is why you are feeling how you are feeling.
Once identified, think of ways you can bring these qualities back into your life.
Feel free to pm me for further info. And please know that this is just where you are right now, you can be somewhere else tomorrow, it really is up to you.
In love, light and abundance x x x
