RE: crazy monkey defense program

Hello pjay

Having had a brief look at this via google, it seems to be about martial arts and boxing. How do you feel this relates to life coaching?

RE: crazy monkey defense program

Hi holistic,
Good question, I dont feel it is life coaching as the definition puts it on the forum topic 'What is Coaching?. There is a few things that interest me though,

Quote 'Coaching is a one-to-one relationship between a client and their coach. Regular sessions are held either face-to-face or over the telephone with action taken by the client between each session.

A coach helps their client to identify what they want to achieve, whether it's in their personal, professional or public life. Once identified, the coach supports their client throughout their quest to achieve their goals, helping to keep the client focused and on track and to overcome any challenges and obstacles on the way to their goal'.

I feel it relates to life coaching by having the client coached to find thier own answers, because it use's movement disciplines such as martial arts and boxing, they become more self aware ofthier own body and im sure ive read that havingself awareness and being responsible for your own actions is key for people making positive change in thier life's.
I was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes last yearand i had a bit of a rough time leading up to the diagnosis, feeling ill and loosing focus on life, as weall feel sometimes, and i came across the CMPD at around the same time as my diagnosis, really i was looking for abit of self confidence andto getactive, I look back now at the things ive changed it is great, ive changed my social circle, im studying for a better job and im happyier than ever. I do a needs analysis and I found my learning style out, im an experiential learner with a bit of reflective observation.
Would you think this is life coaching or is there a different category for this?

Wow...really excited to have found this thread. My name is Rodney king and I created the CMD Program. CMD started off as purely a martial arts based program. We had so much success in helping our client overcome obstacles in their life and career we created and developed a new program called Somatic Martial Arts-Life coaching.

In answer to the question posed here, I would say that most definently it is a life coaching program. However what makes it different is that we approach it from a Somatic perspective first. I believe that the body and its primary language is movement. Since movement is the primary language of the body, moving itself brings us to deep feelings and memories. In a sense our body reflects our way of being human. When we make movement conscious, as through the Somatic Martial Arts Life coaching process, movement itself becomes a vehicle for insight and change.

I believe that Martial Arts is and has always has been more than just about learning how to defend oneself or getting in a ring to compete. The Somatic Martial-Arts Life Coaching Program as a ‘Somatic’ discipline works from the fundamental premise that our core beliefs are embodied, and that until we begin to experience the pain held in them directly through our bodies they will continue to run our lives, even if we mentally understand them.

The Somatic Martial Arts-Life Coaching process allows us to symbolically face our demons of our past and present. As we learn more positive ways to work with our body posture and that posture changes as a natural state of that expression, so does our posture (Mind/body/spirit) in life as well. As we learn to express our anger through symbolical representation through the Somatic Martial Arts-Life coaching process we begin to see it more clearly and find a more constructive expression for it.

As we learn more about our embodiment through movement we become more attuned and aligned physically, emotionally and mentally. In doing so we grow closer to fulfilling our potential as human beings.

The Somatic Martial Arts-Life Coaching program’s focus is not about learning self-defense, competing in a ring or finding new ways to dominate other people- it is about using a martial art movement based process to learn better inter-personal skills and to work, communicate more effectively with others. It is about finding more of yourself through learning through physical experience. It is about creating imaginative input, play and awakening creativity inside each one of us. Finally it is about owning the process of your mind, body and spirit while embodying a positive and healthy philosophy towards everyone in your life and the world you inhabit.

With that said I also realize that many people may not be interested in approaching the use of movement from a martial arts perspective so I am glad to let anyone who may be reading this know that we also have a totally non-martial art movement based program called Somatic Life Coaching. Both programs use movement and the sensate body as the catalyst for change. In the end the Somatic Martial Arts Life Coaching program and Somatic Life Coaching is a body oriented approach to peak performance in life!

Feel free to e-mail me should you want to know more about either one of the programs I would love to hear from you:)
