Has anyone tried this new zumba class thing? I'm going tonight for the first time. I've heard its really fun and you don't feel like you're exercising. Has anyones else tried it? I've been to aerobics and spinning classes in the past but never a dance class, don't have the best co-ordination ha! 😉

My partner has tried it, but I think she found it just a bit too energetic for her and preferred the more slowly paced exercise classes.

Hi coffeemesister,

I go to Zumba on a regular basis and absolutely love it 🙂

Our classes are a mix of latin salsa, urban funk, greek and indian style belly dancing/excercise.

I have done aerobics, step and many other styles (but never dancing) over the years and am finding Zumba a very effective way of toning my arms, torso, legs and buttocks. It certainly raises the heart rate.
I suggest you take plenty of water to drink and a small hand towel to mop your brow.!!!!!

The music alone makes you feel good. There are all ages and levels of fitness in our class and everyone just lets go of their inhibitions and "shimmies", belly rotates and "Zumba thrusts" along with the music.

I can not recommend it enough.:D

I've just bought Zumba for the WII - I will report back on how effective it is:)

It's my favourite way to spend £3.50, once a week in our village hall - I'm one of the youngest (55!) and those who don't want to be too energetic stay at the back! It's brilliant fun!

I would love to go to a local class, but the majority are during the day, whilst the evening classes in the area are really, really full and one group had to move away from their venue as 'they moved the floor'!!! Think of the energy that took to do that!

Happy dancing

Hi Fudge,

Yes, I am able to go during the day (dependant on my work load) and there are usually 20+ squeezed into our village hall! They have to use an iPod as cd's just jump all the time!

The evening classes at the sports hall have over 150 people attending - not bad for a small rural market town!

I agree with Jabba, fantastic good value 🙂

How did you get on yesterday evening coffeemesister?

Hey everyone,

Well....I went to Zumba last night, and the verdict is.....we had a great time! I definately agree with gaiaholistix, you certainly do need lots of water and a towel, the music was great, made it feel more like fun rather than exercise. I would recommend definately!

If I could give any extra advice it would be to make sure you have enough space around you so you don't bang into people, I noticed a couple of people doing this in our class. Can't wait until next week now! Thanks for all your advice peeps 🙂

Lots of my clients recently have been telling me about how great Zumba is and everyone I've spoken to have said they love it. Got Zumba for the Xbox Kinect and I'm really enjoying that. I think there is a class nearby just starting up too so might have to check that out.

I never tried Zumba before but my friend told me that Zumba dance is really a good exercise. I really wanted to lose some weight and have a fit and slimmer body. I tried Hip hop Abs and it helps me to lose weight also but I want to try some exercises that can really help me to lose weight easily.

I have friends that have tried Zumba and as long as you have a sense of rhythm (which most of them do) it appears to be a great deal of fun. However, knowing myself, I would never do it because I am afraid to ‘let go’ in front of people like that.

Zumba is such a great workout and it is a ton of fun! I think that dancing is one of the best exercises because you are using your entire body and toning every muscle without overdoing it and becoming too muscular looking. It's not boring like running on a treadmill and you even burn more calories and tone more easier because of all the different movements. Plus, you feel sexy while doing it and you you can take some of the moves you learn to the dance floor on a Saturday night! Because Zumba focuses on moving your hips it really carves your body into a fit curvy siloet.
