Hi There

I am new to this forum and hoping to find some answers. I have been researching on-line and pretty confused on what exercises to do.

Before I had my daughter I was skinny all over, a little bit of a bottom, but not completely out of proportion.

Now I still have a skinny torso and arms, but my legs seem to be the same width as my waist (each) and big bottom.

What would be the best exercise to slim down my legs, without turning them into muscle?

Thank you in advance

Hi Kylie LM,

The best way to slim down the legs is to do some kind of aerobic training, like running and combining it with lunges to give tone into them.

Running is a natural and most effective way of losing weight and make your legs look thinner.
Then after running, as you do the lunges with high repetitions. Starting from 10 and gradually increasing it up to 50 during weeks/months. Then you´ll do 2-3-4 sets depending on your fitness level.

The importance is that you start slowly and as your body adapts, (you´ll feel it) then, you increase intensity by speed or longer distance or more repetitions. In this way, you´ll get healthier and your legs will be slimmer as well.

Good luck with it! Enjoy the process! and let us know how it goes!

Toning Your Legs

For your legs (and bottom) to become smaller and leaner again, your overall body fat must be reduced through a combination of healthy eating and regular exercise. How much you are able to slim your legs down will depend upon both your body type and your natural genetics. What size and shape are your parents legs? This may give you a hint. Bodies do change as we get older and this is often our natural genetics coming through.

In terms of your workout make sure you add lunges, squats, glute raises etc to your routine as these are fantastic for toning and sculpting the legs and bum. Keep the reps high. As with any exercises that target the legs you would expect to develop those muscles slightly. However, by burning fat, the legs will slim down and will have a more toned look as a result. Add plenty of cardio like rebounding, boxercise, walking/jogging so as to burn calories and start improving your metabolism. In time you should see an improvement to the size and muscle tone in your lower body.

walking and swimming is the best to keep your legs in good shape.Leg exercises like leg lifts.Lay on bed on your side rise leg straight up about 20 times, then change sides do opposite leg lift .You can add more lifts as you go.I do 50 times each leg.In pool kick 25 times on each leg.Do this everyday and you will see a difference.swim laps. This is great for legs.

cycling also offers great cardiovascular exercise, targets the legs and is non impacting so a little easier to use than jogging to get a decent base level of fitness

One of the best cardio exercises you can do because its for one a fairly good mode of transportation and oppose to running its has little wear and tear on your joints because your not consistently beating your legs on pavement

it does have its negatives though, postural problems if in aero position for extended periods and myofascial restrictions caused by not using full range of movement, gut the pros outway the cons.
