Anyone tried to plant veggies or fruit in recycled tin cans? I saw on Jamie Oliver's At Home show that he had a tomato plant growing out of a can, and thought that was a pretty cool way of recycling!

Can anyone tell me what vegetables/fruit would be good to grow in such a small container?

Thanks

The problem with a tin can is the restricted root growth, especially if it grows to be a tall plant, as some tomato or other fruit plants do. Also, the restriction on the amount of soil would mean that it would likely need watering and feeding more often as the nutrients and water would quickly be used up by the plant.

I can see tin cans being good for perhaps growing herbs in though.
