Hi Star99

I grow lavender in large tubs outside in the garden when they have finished flowering I collect seeds for growing new plants next year. Its hardy perennial usually and will reshot each year.

Excuse my ignorance AP but how do you collect seeds from lavender? I'd love to propagate mine

the lavender doesn't need to go inside. As for the dahlias...normally when they have finished flowering they are stripped back the tubers removed from the soil and dusted with a bit of lime (its a powder) and store in a dry cold area then replant in spring (some dalias though will stay in the ground all year and reshot again)

Hi Pinkangel

two ways, either cut the stems off with their heads attached, tie them in to a bunch put their heads into a brown paper bag and hang them up to dry and the seeds should drop out of the seed heads.

The other way I have done is to take the seed heads off and shake them into a paper bag, the seeds are usually tiny black coloured and if the seeds don't come out then break the seed head around them. Store seeds in an envelope.

Re plant in spring and I just put the seeds just below the surface of the compost.

Best wishes

Hi Star99, lavender will die down, ie it doesn't flower all year, but see posting below about if you wish to collect seeds to proprograte for more plants next year. I grow a lot of Munstead Dwarf but have recently got some seeds for pink lavender so hoping that will be as nice as the Munstead one.

Today went as well as it could, quite emotional for everyone and thank you for the Reiki healing....this morning I went to the local cathedral, was quite emotional, lit a candle, wrote a prayer request..whilst holding the ring he left me I did some reiki and at the most strange cold feeling come around my hands yet I was very hot (despite the cathedral being a cool place).

Lavender

Pinkangel, star and anyone else growing lavender. You can start sowing your seeds indoors from this month.

Push seeds just slightly under compost, germination usually within 14 days. Pot on into a larger pot - 5-6 cm is fine and grow on until the frosts have gone, about May....then plant out in their final planting position. you don't need to do anything much with them, apart from watering them, I never feed my lavender. End of season leave them and they will reflower next year.
