You tell me,

I am happy sometimes and other times, totally not happy.

I feel that in the sense of cyber space, I do not fit into any particular part of society.

I am married with 3 children & am 40 , but after having a thermography 2 or 3 years ago which was very abnormal on one breast, I have kind of blanked it out until Now.

I had a mamography which could't find anything but I know the clock is ticking. My mum was diagnosed with breast cancer about 4/5 years ago at the age of 62 which is young according to my GP.

My question is where can you voluntarily have your breast removed without extortionate charges - we are in difficult siutation right now but any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Forever - to be honest, no-one on this Forum can give you advice on this, other than to suggest that you make a special appointment with your GP(book a 'double' appointment) to talk to him/her about this in some depth. Ask him/her to refer you to an breast cancer consultant, who can discuss this with you - if your GP won't, you can book an appointment at any private hospital to talk to a consultant there - even if you don't have private medical insurance - but you will have to pay quite a bit for a 30 minute slot.

I have 2 clients who have had 'elective mastectomy'. Both had been through genetic investigation, and were found to have the gene that meant that they 'might' develop breast cancer at some point in their lives. It wasn't a light decision but they certainly didn't have to pay for the surgery.

My Mum had breast cancer aged 58 and I developed it aged 45. My Gran and 2 aunts also had it. I never dwelt on the thought that I might develop it. When it did raise its ugly head, I got it sorted. That was in 2001. Coincidentally, I had a mammogram and annual check yesterday morning. All fine. Both my daughters have been tested at the genetics clinic, and both have the gene, but have decided to get on with their lives.
