Hi,
I've had my very first smear test this morning, and it's definatly not something I'd like to do again!
The lady that did it said that she needed to use a 'medium' clamp.
Ever since she said that, I've been thinking that my vagina is really wide.
I'm only 25 and she needed to use a MEDIUM clamp to open me up!
Is this normal or and I quite big down below?
Well, I've had quite a few, and I don't recall the size of clamp being mentioned
But bear in mind some ladies are very petite frame-wise, so presumably they would warrant a "small" one, and medium is probably average. Just be thankful you didn't have to have an "extra large"!
😉
I've had a lot of smears and have never heard of a clamp being used. Is it another name for a speculum? I think there are different sizes of those.
As far as I'm aware, it's not uncommon and I definitely agree where it was mentioned that we are all build with different body frames and some more petite than others. Honestly, I can't remember what happened with mine (only a year ago :o, bad memory!) but the nurse practitioner was very thorough explaining and mentioned that it may be needed but not to worry.
I find it a little strange to hear how your first smear is 25. In Scotland it's legal to do by 20 years old and recommended by around 18 if not a virgin. Just my little musings.
