Hello,

I wonder if anyone here can offer me a bit of advice re: Agnus Castus.

I have been on the oral contraceptive pill for a number of years now (the one where you take 21 pills have a 7 day break then start again) and have been getting increasingly bad PMS in the past few months, and also feel like I have some of the symptoms of high estrogen/low progesterone.

I was planning on having a month or two off the pill, so during my 7 day break I started taking Agnus Castus. However, after the 7 day break (7 days of taking Agnus Castus) decided to stay on the pill for a bit longer (stopped taking Agnus Castus).

During the 7 days on AC I had my period as I normally would when having my 7 day break, however when starting the pill again I didn't stop bleeding as I normally would. My period lasted 2 weeks, then it stopped completely for 6 days (was really relieved as I thought the nightmare was over) and then it started again. I've now had my period again for about 6 days. It's not quite like a normal period though...in that some times during the day I will think it's stopped, and other times it's quite heavy.

Just wondering if anyone knows if this is a typical reaction to Agnus Castus, and what I should do next....or do nothing and wait?

Thanks in advance for any advice, really losing my patience with this!! 🙁

Hi there, welcome to HP.

I am not sure whether anyone here can help you with this situation, but if there is I am sure they will. You really need to speak to someone who is knowledgeable with herbs and would suggest you contact a registered medical herbalist - try . They will know all the ins and outs of registered herbs and their effects in different situations.

As for oestrogen dominance - please look at this website for helpful information, particularly .

I do hope this gets sorted soon for you.
