Hi

Has anyone heard of this chemical agent, it has been suggested to me that it is an aggresive cleaning agent in most body, facial washing gels and shampoo etc. Having looked on the stuff i use it is the second ingrediant in most of them. I have been told that as i have psoriasis i should try and avoid it at all costs??

It was reccomended to use NEWAYS products, which don't have it in.

Any thoughts??

RE: Sodium Lauryl Sulphate

Hi Mark

Yes indeed, SLS is an agressive agent and can strip away at layers of the skin(!)

I don't know too much about Neways but I use a product range that is free of SLS and other harmful agents - have a look at this website:

RE: Sodium Lauryl Sulphate

Hi Mark,

Great to hear from you.

SLS isvery a harsh detergent found in almost all shampoos and more than a few toothpastes.

SLS stated its career as an industrial degreaser and floor cleaner.

When used on human skin it has the effect of stripping off the oil layer and then irritating and eroding the skin. leaving it rough and pitted.

SLS also has a low molecular weight and is easily absorbed by the body. IOt uilds up in Heart lungs and brain and can cuase major problems in these areas.

It also is routinely used in clinical studies deliberatly to irritate the skin so that the affects of substances can be assessed.

Some would say SLES (Ethoxylated) SLS is a worse risk to your health being that manufacturing process can create 1-4 dioxane which then can contaminate the product with the principle component of Agent Orange used by the Americans during the Viatnam war to strip the jungle canopy! Its also a hormonal disruptor and estogen mimic thought to increase the risk of endrometrial cancers. ()

As for Neways yes they are good but as mentioned there are also many other good products to look at. Where Neways get my vote is the reduction of fragrances etc so less likely to irritate.

SLS can also contribute to hairloss because of their stripping action in your pores.

Yes, I haven't heard a bad thing about NEWAYS. They are rather well priced when it comes to the shampoo and such. A little goes along way with their shampoo.

I have a couple of freinds that strongly recommend them (she's vain, but I love her;)

I simply use baking soda, I posted how I use it on the Natural remedies forum, homemade shampoo thread.

Light and Laughter
