I'm getting red sore skin at the top of my legs, where the legs meet the groin area. It hurts quite a bit and makes walking difficult. In a few days, it'll go away and the skin returns to normal, then some weeks later it comes back.
I have no idea what's causing this. I've been told by the doctor to put dermovate on it, and it does seem to soothe it a little. Any other suggested treatments?
RE: Redness between legs
hi daz [sm=wave.gif]
i was wondering if this redness has coincided with the recent heatwave? it could be where your skin is moist with sweat, that any material rubbing against the area can cause it to chafe. another factor to consider is what washing powder you are using, and the tightness of your clothing around that area.
i would suggest zinc and castor oil cream ( AKA nappy rash cream, sudocrem) as this is very good for soothing inflamed areas. if the problem persists, i would advise going back to the doctor again.

Yeah you're legs sound like they're chafing, maybe try abay oil and make sure your clothing is loose and not wet (its difficult in the summer so maybe try natural clothingthat wicks moisture away from the skin and promotes evaporation.

Hi calla
I don't think it's the heatwave. It's happened before, during autumn and winter. I also don't think it's the washing powder or tightness of clothing.
The skin isn't chafing exactly, it's becoming inflamed.
Thankfully the condition has died down for the moment, but if (when) it happens again I shall certainly try some sudocrem.
RE: Redness between legs
oh I meant to spell 'baby oil' back there.. try that, its works!

Hi
Have you tried Caneston Cream? Yes I know it's for your girly bits, but it does work. It has been used where I used to work (hospital) for inbetween the legs (groin area) sweaty bums and under the bust. I've even used it on my hubby and son.I personally wouldn't use sudocrem, but hey each to there own.

RE: Redness between legs
another thought is it could be eczema or dermatitis, where the latter is usually caused by prolonged contact with an irritant (i had this on my hands for ages until i realised washing the dishes bare-handed and not moisturising afterwards was the culprit). try using a barrier cream if this is the case:D
if its eczema, then your doctor should prescribe a suitable cream.

I may be wrong but it sounds like what in the military is called 'crotch rot'. Not as bad as it sounds! Your doctor really should be able to easily diagnose it I'd think - though I don't know a non-military term for it.
If that's what it is, it's caused by a combination of a bit of chafing maybe, but mainly a fungus which grows in damp parts of our body. Basically where you mention and under the armpits. Dampness such as the weather we've had could help its onset, but the basic thing is that the fungus can get into certain items of clothing you wear there. If it does, you'll find that once it's gone, it may come back if you wear particular undies or trousers. The solution may be to identify these items and replace them.
I had it underarm as a teen and 'elsewhere' as an adult hiker. If this is what it is I find Mycota Cream works every time, applied for a number of days. Same as what's used for Athlete's Foot which is also fungoid.
P.S. Just as an aside, that's why the military use boxer shorts as undies and non-tight trousers - it helps a bit for this not to develop.

RE: Redness between legs
hey i have the same problem with that Reddness issue you talked about....Did you ever figure out what it was?!?!?! and what can be done to make it stop occuring Lol Help me!!:D
RE: Redness between legs
Any Elastic touching your skin? I'm allergic to elastic, it may be worth turning your pantsinside out and wearing them that way. But I suggest you go commando for a few days too till the soreness susides, then try it. I dare say you have some cool non tight shorts or a sarong around. Lyn
I experienced this sometime ago and it lasted for months and I couldn't figure out the problem.. I went to the doctor and got some treatment but they kept coming back. Someone told me to make sure my underwears are properly dried by the sun. That works.
