Hi just recently my ghd's literally had sparks flying out, I know it really cheesed me off as I cant live without them. But I sent them back to ghd and they sent me a letter back saying that they can be repaired for £23.00 which is fine. Just wanted to know are other ceramic hair straighteners the cheaper alternative are just as good as ghd's. Just wanted to know out of interest.

ive not used anything other than ghd and i'm really happy with them
my friend uses kodo one's and she says she cant live with out them, only difference between my friend and i is that she has short fine hair, and ive got long thick hair!!!, don't know how well other types would cope with my masses of hair!

I have tried a few different brands over the last couple of years, and to my mind you can't beat the GHD's! I couldnt live without mine now, (my hair probably wishes I could........!)

I haven't tried the kodo ones, so cant comment, I have had Remington ones an obscure brand and VS, and none can beat the 7 second heat up of the GHD.

Not so sure about the GHD hair oil, but that is another story!

Hi thanks for that. I know how you feel, I can't live without my ghd's either, believe me I'm struggling whilst mines getting repaired. I have heard though that the t3 tourmaline are supposed to be good and better for the hair.

I've got some of the T3 ones and they're pretty good, heat up quickly and do the job well. I just winced at the price of ghd's. Maybe I'm just a bit too mean.

Cheers

I too had GHD's and so did my mum. After about a year, both mine and my mum's GHD's blew up (within about a month of each other). I also had a friend who's plates fell off their GHD's. I, like most others, thought that no other straighteners could live up to them!! How wrong I was!! My mum bought different straighteners, but I sent mine back to GHD. They wanted £43 plus postage to repair them! I told them it was OK and I'd just get myself something else. They actually repaired them and sent them back without charging me (odd!) but in the meantime I'd bought a pair of SCP hair straighteners from Pretty Gorgeous which were every bit as good. I ended up selling the GHD's on eBay and got about £60 for them and kept the SCP's!!! My friends have since bought SCP's and absolutely none of them could tell the difference!! It appears people are paying for the name!! 😮

No.. in my and my 2 daughters opinion ceramics are nowhere as good as GHD's.
We have 5 straihteners between us, 2 are GHD's and they're brilliant. Though we allways make sure we never use them without a heat protecter.
Before we got the GHD's we thought that ceramics were the best thing ever, but GHD's are definately better.

Hi, I had a pair of straighteners and when they went wrong I could not get them fixed so they went in the bin --- money lost. I have just brought a pair of GHDs for £77.00 including delivery and I know if they go wrong after the guarantee I will be able to have them repaired. I think that this is worth the extra. Gotmine from [link= http://www.4yourhair.co.uk ]www.4yourhair.co.uk[/link] arrived the next day!! Wow.
I suppose if you could buy some for about £25 it would not be worth getting the GHDs but I am not sure which ones are any good at that price. I know I would not pay £100 for any straightener.

I need help! My ghd only lasted 18 months which sems to be the norm so bought scp mk 4 from net only to be told they couldn't ship outside uk so bought scp mk3 on ebay. Problem is i received both and don't know which one to keep as the MK4 looks dodgy, the scp logo is not the same and the window for the temp gauge is transparent but orange. Bought from hairstuff direct has anyone else bought one do you think it's the real deal? I think GHD are great but at the end of the day we're now paying for the brand as the other cosmetic companies have now not only matched but surpassed GHD technology.

Yeah, don't know if I'm too late with this reply, but I've heard some horror stories about the place you bought them from i.e. straighteners look fake, fall apart and the company want nothing to do with them. Hope your's are still holding up OK!

My two daughters use hair straighteners and swear by GHDs. My eldest has what can only be described as "white afro" hair and they're by far the best and kindest straighteners for her hair. It always looks amazing. 🙂

I bought my daughter GHD's three years ago, they go everywhere with her, she loves them, her dad has had to change the cable though as the cable split. I also bought the products to go with them, she would say it's the best gift she's ever had ! ;)lyn

[color="#330099"]Did you see the Watchdog reports (BBC1) on GHDs and not leaving them plugged in (even when switched off they managed to cause house fires)?

I wouldn't buy them for my daughter as a result, got Remington and she's been happy with them ever since her birthday at the beginning of January!

I got the GHS straighteners for christmas, and they are brilliant, same results as the GHD.

Check out their web on the net or on ebay, where they sell them.

Sorry to hear about your daughter, there is human hair wigs, that look excellent, another try you could look at is tablets that help speed growth, I forget the name, but Cheryl Baker used it.

GOOD LUCK!!

well I've used another hair straightener that is great, it's the Karmin G3 Salon Pro, it works pretty good with any type of hair. it heats up to 450f with temperature control, dual voltage, tourmaline ceramic plates with rounded edges which makes it great for also curling your hair. Also has a 3 year warranty. 😉

I can really recommend these made by Unil Electronics who used to make ghds
they now make the she branded hair straighteners 3.1b same model as ghd
used to do, you can find these at ebay or amazon and about
half the price of ghds
