This has been bugging me for a few days and thought I would see whether you guys can give any feedback. My friend said that her daughter came home saying a friend of her is using anusul cream yes the cream for Haemorrhoids to put under her eyes apparently for puffiness and bags, apparently some of the stars are doing it too.

Is this true? Has anyone else heard about it or tried it?

Is it safe to do that?

RE: Anusol cream under your eyes!!!

Well Bonnie...

I have just put it in a search and I found that it is indeed true! Blow me over!!!

Here you go...

Justine Picardie examines the (alleged) wrinkle-reducing properties of haemorrhoid cream

Startling news from my friend, the beauty hound, who has just sniffed out the latest trend, as ever. Apparently, the top models have added a new tool to their face-saving arsenal: piles cream, applied to reduce puffiness around the eyes, or wrinkles, or both. "And darling," she says, "I need you to test the cream."

More about that here: -

You are very welcome Vicki...

What will they think of next?

I have put a link to the website where I found the information in my first post... There is a bit more about this strange new trend to be read there...

RE: Anusol cream under your eyes!!!

Could the "bit more" you referred to perhaps be this, from the link you posted above:

I examine the Anusol leaflet, which nowhere mentions wrinkle-reducing; simply stating, in a sensible manner, that the active ingredients are zinc oxide and bismuth oxide (both astringents) and an antiseptic called balsam peru. Possible side effects include a rash and mild irritation: and that's when applied to tougher nether regions, not the face.

It sounds to me like a case of "don't try this at home", whatever the top models do! [:-]

RE: Anusol cream under your eyes!!!

One of the girls on my Swedish course used to apply it to her undereye area 2x a week - she looked ok, but then she was younger than me anyway.

I saw a programme a few years back that said that alot of American beauty pagent girls use it all over their faces because of its tightening effect (it shrinks piles) - the comment was

"it makes you think twice about wanting to kiss one of those girls when you think where that cream is supposed to go - kiss my....."

LOL

I've heard about this for years & altough tempted i'd never ever try it....the skin under your eyes is very delicate & you never now what long term damage it could do....if there was truth to it without risk then no doubt a comestic company would bring a cream out with simular ingretients (with no mention of a pain in the ass) & flog it for a high price!!!

Just my thoughts.....besides....I personaly don't fancy the idea of putting something on my face thats ment for 'elsewhere';)

Having worked in a pharmacy i have seen a few people buy anusol for the same reason but the pharmasist always expressed that if you use it you do so at your own risk as the manufacturer does not suggest using it for under eyes.
It works by contracting blood vessels when used for haemorhoids.

Hi,
I started using Anusol under my eyes a few years ago, but only after I'd had a late night and hence looked a little less than bright.
It has no side effects and is a very useful tool in my beauty kit. Don't be afraid of trying it.
Yes the skin under the eye is sensitive, but then so is the skin around the area the cream is intended for!

If anyone goes to the link that Amber gave earlier, near the bottom of that article are some suggestions of aromatherapy oil alternatives which might be a safer option.

A number of cosmetic companies make eye creams with the dual purpose of nourishing the delicate skin around the eyes as well as reducing puffiness. Slices of raw cucumber over closed eyes are also said to be a natural astringent, but I've never tried that. Perhaps I'm lucky ... if I have bags under my eyes I find an early night works quite well! As for wrinkles, I don't have any. I have laughter lines. I laugh a lot 😀 :D:D

I won't be buying Anusol for putting round my eyes but of course everyone is free to choose what to put on their face, whether or not they have read accounts both for and against and weighed up the pros and cons.

I remember Tara Palmer-Tomkinson admitting she used it for pimples during some chatshow.

I suppose the suppository form "makes for great convenient portable mini applicator sticks you can keep in your purse!".

Still, all's swell that ends well.

I always thought it was Preparation H you used, but then I heard the ingredient had been removed. Maybe Anusol still has it! As for essential oils, I really wouldn't recommend anyone used them that close to the eyes. Before I recommend self treatments to clients I try them out first. Unfortunately I did with a Valerie Ann Worwood blend for puffy eyes (I think), I felt like I had pored acid over my eyes and was so worried that I would have to go to casualty. Thankfully no damage was done, but it was very scary! [:o]

RE: Anusol cream under your eyes!!!

I have just read another thread about creams and oils etc and how they are suitable for some people but not suitable for others. I suppose what it boils down to is that it may well make a difference but as Anusol cream is not intended to be used around the eye area it may not be advisable to try it.

That's my verdict anyway.;)

Thanks for all the feedback everyone is supplying its really helpful

definitely scary!

out of interest, if they remove the ingredient that reduces swelling, what is the point in Prep H?

(You know you're bored on a Saturday night when you're asking questions about Preparation H!!)

HI everyone 🙂
It is a wellknow "rescue-tool" amongst models......
Every model has such a cream in their toiletbag....EVERY ONE of them even the TOP-MODELS 😉

It is one of the 'secret' beauty-tips, even the make-up artists for models use it.(you can use 'HAMAMELIS' too.)

And it sure works.....!!;)

I don't know if I'd be a**ed to try it under my eyes, but apparently pile cream is great for healing tattoos - honest, although I always used Savlon

Indeed, I have been a model for several years, but not anymore. So yes, that's how I know 😉
But if you look at programs on TV about skin-care and make-up advice....they too often mention the 'benefit' of such creams. So it is not "a well kept" secret, 😀 It is a useful 'TIP' ......

ah right. I don't tend to watch such programmes. I wonder how they first discovered this tip, anyway...

"hmm, mum, I went to brush teeth but wasn't paying attention and accidentally used your old tube of Preparation H. My tongue has shrunk to half its size, but on the plus side, a splash got on a spot on my chin and now that's disappeared too!"

I didn't mean *your* tube! It was supposed to be a possible conversation that may have gone on a long time ago, in a galaxy not so far away.

I thought Prep H is the more popular brand of cream. It's the one I've seen advertised on TV at least!

Ah, that explains it. You have Anusol though?

In retrospect, I don't know why I asked this question. I am not that keen to discover the market share of various piles cream manufacturers across Europe! 😀

[sm=rollaugh.gif] I haven't anything to add to this somewhat amusing thread, but it's been great fun to read.

Ah, *looks smug* I'm too young for wrinkles anyhow:D:D

hihihihih......its not for wrinkels [sm=rollaugh.gif]

😉 its for 'puffy' eyes.
Like for ex: you've gone out all night and the next morning your eyes look all swollen; or you've cried and got swollen eyes afterwards.....

😉

Or more likely, I drink far too much, get puffy eyes and then stand in front of the mirror for ages trying to remember what that weird 'cure' was through my hangover.:D
